The lord is the portion of my inheritance

Grettings my brothers.

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; you are the best of my luck. Psalm 16.5

Among the tribes of Israel, only one received no inheritance in the Promised Land: the Levites. In Deuteronomy 18.1, 2b it is said: "The Levite priests and all the tribe of Levi shall not have a part or an inheritance in Israel; ... the LORD is their inheritance, as he has said to them." While all had lands, the Levites had a special portion, unseen by human eyes.

David, in the face of persecution, after losing all things, prays to God asking that he keep it (v. 1). The verb used here is shamar. David cries out that God keeps him, keep watch over him, protect him. Only God is his place of protection.

Then, he recognizes that he has no other good (tov) but God (vs. 2). Tov, literally, means good. David recognizes that there is nothing good in his life that is not related to the presence of God, his Lord, whom he serves. He has nothing visible or desirable for men, but recognizes that he has a much greater inheritance. He says: "My inheritance is very beautiful" (vs. 6). By faith, David knows that he will inherit the Kingdom of God.

He says: the LORD is my cup. In Psalm 116.13, the psalmist says: "Take the chalice of salvation and call on the name of Jehovah." David recognizes that the Lord is the one who saves him, he does not need anything else on that earth because he has the Lord's salvation. who cares for his servant and who guarantees eternal life and perpetual inheritance. "So that David could take the chalice of salvation, his savior took the bitter cup of God's wrath instead (Mt 26.39-45).

David is still saying: "You are the best of my luck." The word arrimo (tamak) literally means "to hold, to hold, to reach". David affirms that God is the one who sustains, keeps in safety his luck, his portion, his future, his inheritance. David knows that being in the hands of the Lord, the enemy can not take his inheritance from him. He is safe with the Lord and does not fear, and for this reason he affirms: "The Lord, I have it always in my presence, while he is at my right, I will not be shaken" (vs. 8). He receives salvation, and he can never be lost, because the Lord is preserving and protecting him.

Finally, David affirms how he will receive this incorruptible inheritance from the Lord. He says:

"For you will not leave my soul in death, nor will you allow your Saint to see corruption" (vs. 10). David, now speaks about the Saint of God who will not see corruption. David speaks no more of himself, but of the person of Christ. He who sips the cup of God's wrath to offer the cup of salvation, has conquered a very beautiful inheritance for those who believe. Christ overcame death to give us life. Therefore, through Christ, the Holy One of God, who saw no corruption, who rose again on the third day, we can "see the ways of life, in your presence there is fullness of joy, in your right hand, delights perpetually" (vs . eleven).

He is "the portion of my inheritance and of my cup," in his hands is my destiny, he leads me to the green meadows, it is my food, the land that they work with care and affection, and that gives me the bread of every day .

God bless you the new structure of SteemChurch
