A lot of people do sponsorship for sponsorship. It seems to be a common approach for those oriented more around the ROI rather than community-building and supporting others.
The global steemit environment has become like this where everyone thinks about cashing the reward pool instead of community support so there's no one who gets to blame for all these capitalist mentality
