Does reputation matter when it comes to upvotes or not? It took me a couple of weeks to understand how my reputation affects my upvotes.
First of all, what is your reputation on Steem? Your reputation on Steem is the small number next to your Steemit username!
You find that number when you click on your posts and take a look at below the title where you see the spot that I marked for you in the picture below.
You can also see your reputation on your blog page which is always Steemit.com/@YourUsername but to see that, you need to install the app "Steemit more Info" which offers even more than just displaying your reputation.
That app also shows you who voted for you, who you voted or both and same for your mentions. It also displays the current worth of your upvote and the worth of the upvotes that you received on your post a blog history & more!
I highly recommend installing "Steemit More Info" which you can download here: Steemit More Info.

How to Increase Your Reputation Quickly
To increase your reputation you have to receive upvotes, the higher the upvotes on your posts are the faster your reputation will climb. The higher your reputation is the higher the upvotes need to be to reach a higher reputation!
To increase your reputation as fast as possible you have to create very high-quality posts and boost them with bots immediately after you have published them.
Using bots to boost low-quality trash posts will get you a lot of enemies & hopefully you feel guilty about it!
With bots, you can boost your hopefully high-quality posts into trending and even make a good profit out of that investment.
You make more cash, get more followers and hopefully, the big guys here on Steem don't hate you for boosting that post, it is the highest priority to only boost the best posts otherwise the gods of cash will punish you for that.
I will write a post on how to use bots in the future, writing about that subject here would distract from the topic, till then you can educate yourself here with the help of @JerryBanfield his post about bots: Boosting Posts With Bots
You can only see your reputation increase by 1,2,3 and so forth but not by 0,1 or 0,5. Luckily a smart man called @penguinpablo created a website where you can check your reputation progress & more.
Does Reputation Matter Much?
Short answer: No. Long answer: Reputation does not really much because the option to boost your hopefully nice butt into Steem Olympia exists.
Reputation reflects how much cash in the form of upvotes you have received and because of the boosting option that number does not reflect your efforts that much.
There are people out there with reputations 60-70 who produce worst kind of content that I have ever seen. They post a picture with 1 sentence below it and call that a "post".
Since I have reputation 60 I also don't see an increase in the worth of upvotes that I receive. It really depends on the quality of your posts & the information it.
My bests posts in terms of upvotes are about subjects that are helpful for Steemians, perfectly formatted and about subjects that almost nobody covered.
Take a look at this post of @TheRightSideOfUp Click here to open it which received $20.
Now you say to yourself that it ain't much but for a guy that joined Steemit last month it really is. That man has written about a topic that almost nobody writes about (His war experience) which is described in good detail.
He has written 1600 words, wrote about a rare but highly interesting topic which is useful to almost everyone who has served in the army because he also offers advice in his post. That seems to be the winning formula!
Conclusion
Reputation does not matter much. What matters is the information you deliver, what you write about, and how often it was already covered, of course, there are other things that are important as well but in my experience, your reputation plays no important role in that.
There are plenty authors with high reputations that only post shit. Don't be one of those guys and girls.

But your thoughts on reputation are quite right. I think people are drawn towards reputation when new and increasingly towards high SP as they start to understand how Steemit really works.
You just have to reload the page or go to 'replies' for example and then go back to blog. Sometimes it doesn't work at all though.

The blog histogram doesn't load sometimes, but the other features are reliable (they lag sometimes tho).
That really sucks sometimes, especially when you want to make a screenshot of it for your blog post!

In a way I do agree with you that reputation means squat if the person just writes shitty posts but having a high number would often make a person pause and check the content of the person and if it will be worth the time to comment and possibly get an upvote and a follower if the comment was very good.
Once the person realize that it's a golden shit post talking about marvel and 80 % of the comments are bid bot comments of confirmation from the 5-6 bots he would use on one post. Then you see 5 more similiar post and same MO done the same day and you leave in disgust and never follow check teh person again because you know it's just a placeholder post.
Reputation is indeed climbing up high but the respect the person gets in the community is almost none and zero engagement on posts. Tis just a reputation and money grab.
In a way content is still King and engagement an important part of the growth. Reputation may get a person to try to engage but afterwards it will be up to the skill of the person to turn that to a follower and in turn make them an engagers.

More people look at our posts based on our reputation but that doesn't guarantee upvotes, in fact, you risk losing cash and you ruin your reputation here on Steem (not the number) by writing shit.
In other words, I agree with your statement.
I'm loving the Steemit education course, there's always some nugget of gold in each post. Sometimes more.
Another good tool for checking reputation, voting power, votes, comments and the like is steemworld.org. Granted you do need to have it open in another tab, but it has a wealth of information in there.
I do think reputation has an indirect benefit in as much as others may be more likely to at least check out your post if you have a higher reputation. The post still needs to be of high quality to make that tendency worth anything. If you're posting garbage the higher click-through will just serve to wreck your efforts at creating a tribe, and could even lead to some of you followers leaving you.
So, I agree with you - don't worry about your reputation, but instead focus on posting high quality content if you want to grow on Steemit.

I like your style. I am waiting your post how to use the bots to promote your post. Of course @jerryBanfield is a legend , but his posts are sooooooooooo long to the degree I am bored to lose my focus or even interest and not able sometimes to complete his video , tell myself I will later. However, I like videos which give the info in a “nutshell” like yours and boxmining ... just my opinion . Also it maybe funny to think ( human vs bots) : if bots in the future become so smart to write high quality posts on their own 😃😂

yes reputation doesn't really matter much, but to an extent it gets you attention, it's easier to for 70 to attract your attention than a 35 or so.
it's much easier to read an article written by someone with a 70 reputation than someone with a 40.
Maybe it is not that much, but reputation can get a lot of people to check out what you write. Maybe that's when they find out whether you write sense or crap, but at least they had checked out your content.

However, as a newcomer, I always value the 'underdogs'. Same with publishing, I tend to read authors who are self-published. True, a lot of the 'noobies' have lots of crap, but there are others with real high-quality content (or at least, to what I like). So I tend to try and encourage and read others.

I completely agree with the comment you have made in regards to the quality of posting. I confess my posts are far from perfect something this year I should strive to better myself at but I read many things about tags and effectively using them, In your opinion do you think this is true, or is the following and connecting through curation a natural evolvement in the steemit journey.

I'm a very big fan of curation, and it's pretty hard to help somebody's good post get noticed when others are paying for bots and or self-voting. I don't mind that people selfvote and pay for bots, it just shouldn't be possible to buy you way to the trending and hot list. It should be a matter of people finding the good stuff and helping it get noticed.
And maybe for that reputation could play a bigger part, so we could have more superstar curators, a bit like spotify I guess.

I believe that the Rep Score is based on a logarithmic curve. So the climb gets harder as the rep score increases. I have been experiencing considerable anxiety with my rep score lately.
I have avoided using autobots to 'artificially' inflate my upvotes and earnings - fearful of an eventual 'Google Slap' type reprimand from either Steem Inc or some trigger happy whales.
Although it may not really affect much on Steemit, it is still an aspirational score to keep track of one's progress on this platform. Thank you for another inspirational post from you!
Yes it gets harder with higher reputations. One has to be careful about bot use and in general, do not piss of the wrong person.

I started with 0 followers and 0 investments here on Steem.
I write 2 high-quality posts every day for over 3 months now.
In the first 2 months, I barely made cash & I barely had followers.
You have to put in the work before people see the value of you.

Choose 10 people that you follow and comment on their posts every day.
Besides that, I recommend to write 1-2 posts per day & learning more about Steem 10 minutes per day.
Never quit doing that and soon you will see your reputation grow!

Thanks for this informative post, @valorforfreedom! I've been lurking for the longest on steemit, and I've been an active member since August 2017. Most of my content is photographs since I am a hobbyist photographer. Some of my posts have been just a photo with a blurb but others I do put in more effort and time. Since I've been on steemit posting, I have learned to be more creative and have picked up a couple of new hobbies of painting and drawing to go with my photography. It's new, and a slow work in progress but I think sometimes people's content quality goes up with their experience and reputation. I look forward to your next post on making lasting friendships here on steemit.

Thanks for your suggestion and you're rather right! I've been working on adding more wording to my posts. I think it's a combination of things that add to post quality, rep, the frequency of posts and if the person is social or not (replying to comments and votes).
The quality of your post, the information itself, how often it was covered, the formatting, your reputation, your thumbnail, the first sentence and the amount of followers all play a role.
There are even more factors than that.
I like your post style and your writing is understable and its the best part of your post. Im waiting for your next post of how to use upvote bots. Sincierly your post help me a lot.

Reputation does matter, people easily get attracted to higher rep people cz they know they can earn something via comments. Now days on steemit nobody even bothered to check low rep people's posts. good post though @valorforfreedom .
I agree Vnyrox, but the people that vote based on your reputation are new on Steem, you can not determine the value of a post by reputation alone and people with experience here on Steem know that.
And you are wrong when you say they don't read your post because of low reputation. If I see something of my interest I won't care about reputation because I know that a high reputation does not display how much life experience you have.
hmm maybe Vynrox does have a point. Some people will definitely try to comment on posts with high-rep so that if their comments get upvoted by the post author, they get higher earnings than a comment upvote by someone with 25 reputation.
That is true, but you only get those high upvotes by writing high-quality comments (which almost nobody does).
I have to mute 1/4 of the commenters and the other 1/4 barely write a sentence the other 1/4 is trying but failing and the other 1/4 write slightly above average comments.
Yeah, that is totally true. I haven't had much experience of being commented upon, but I do see a lot of spam comments "thank you! i like this" and super dry comments.

i beg to differ reputation matters, i have seen people following guys with higher reputation those with low reputation, especially minnow believe the higher you are in the food chain the better and have higher voting power so you would see people with low reputation having fewer votes and followers compared with someone with less than 55 reputation, look at the trending and hot post are never from people with low reputation , even their shit post have high votes and comments

I guess reputation score still has some effect psychologically. I normally think that those people with good reputation score "must" be posting worth it posts. I know it's not the case all the time but I still upvote them :)
