Every year on June 21st, skateboarders around the world commemorate Go Skateboarding Day. This is a holiday, as Christians celebrate Christmas and Muslims enliven Eid ul-Fitr.

The Go Skateboarding Day celebration was set in 1994, just today 24 years ago, when a group of skateboarders in Southern California found the right day to break free of the routine and did nothing but have fun with skateboarding. The International Association of Skateboard Companies then honors this date as an "official holiday" for skateboarders.

50-50: Based on Real Stories
The old man fretted every time he saw his son lying like a leper in front of the television. He, like most men his age, is fond of babbling out the obvious: Play outdoors, do not keep quiet, sports make healthy, and so on. Whereas he used to buy a console game for his son to feel at home. There are two mysteries that will not be solved in this world. First lies the tip of ignorance, both ways parents think.

Her mother is more solutive. Rather than babble, the mother even took the initiative to buy a bike. Since then the habit of playing games gradually shift bike to school, to the neighbor's house, around the village. The child is happy, you do not need to grumble every work home. 50-50. Brilliant.

The nagging parent is my father.

Together with a brand-new bike, I found a new place around the house: A pool like the one in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game 4. His name is Skatepark Skatepark in Parung, Bogor.

One afternoon, a group of teenagers came to the skate park. Some glide nimbly on the concrete with a skateboard like Elissa Steamer, some trying to conquer the rail. Their efforts are more like torture; falling, rolling, falling again. But they laughed.

Wood sounds clash with asphalt. Consistent roar of bearing rotation. Long 'O' shouts when someone manages to land a trick.

As an elementary school student whose primary skill is to change my mind, I go home; throwing a bicycle in front of the house; and whining skateboard bought. Certainly not bought, because parents think in mysterious ways.

Rektivianto Yoewono, vocalist of The S.I.G.I.T-the famous band-besides having the talent to play the guitar and twist the vocal chords also had a special interest in skateboarding. We talked through email and she told us about her first meeting with a skateboard.

"After watching the Back to the Future movie in elementary school," she said, "But just bought a skate board at junior high school, age 15, and started playing until college, after college rarely playing, at least once a week."

Rekti goes on.

Skateboard traces in Bandung began to be seen in the late 1970s. At that time, since the only access to skateboarding was with imports, Uncle Rekti made it himself. The Uncle shrinks the wood and puts him a tire skate.

"I also saw an ad in a 1970s Indonesian magazine featuring teenagers on a skating, but forget what ads."

For Rekti, skateboarding industry is not just about skateboarding. Through the industry he got a lot of references to fashion styles and information of new music, even the music of the band that sank and forgotten in the era of 1960 to the 1970s.

In addition to the matter of having fun, skateboarding is also a matter of looking stylish. Therefore, skateboards and cameras are just like darkness and Simon and Garfunkel. The camera is also meritorious to spread the story of how cool someone who stood on a skateboard. The cover of LIFE magazine published in May 1965 featured a woman standing with her hands on a skateboard, and LIFE thought this: The most dangerous junk device. A month earlier, the magazine reported two children killed while playing skateboarding on the streets.

Through photographs in magazines and videos circulating from one data burner software to another data burner software, skateboard scooping new enthusiasts. At a glance this sport looks expensive, but actually the actors in it are physiologically sharing, like a family or a global commune. No one cares what your language is and where you come from, your skin tone and your political choice, as long as you carry the skate you will be greeted like the lost child of André Gide when he first comes home.
