Thanks for linking to that post, interesting read and I did add my thoughts. Kind of late to the party so who knows if it will be seen.
Anyways the decentralized nature does make addressing many issues harder. With a simple centralized system spammers would just have their accounts closed and their IP address logged to be blocked in the future. Here we are relying on users to take their limited voting power and flag someone with it. This takes away from their ability to reward other authors and opens them up to retaliation.
While I love the decentralized nature of steemit there are some issues that maybe need a more centralized solution. This solution can be brought forward by the community, voted into place by the community, but I feel there maybe needs to be a single entity that deals with spammers/scammers.
What this solution is I'm not sure, but think that we need one that doesn't make it harder for new members to earn rewards. If anything we should be looking for ways to encourage new members to engage here and get them some rewards quicker so they are hooked and telling their friends about it.
