People often wonder what the future holds. It is interesting to follow different technologies and see how they evolve from the scientific/laboratory stage right through implementation. Paralleling that is the transition that a technology goes through in terms of the media. It starts on the science/engineering sites, them moves to technology, then the business/investing pages, and finally ends up on the mainstream sites.
One of the many reasons I love the potential of STEEM is because I believe it is leading the charge into the tokenized world. In the next 3 years or so, we are going to see people starting to get tokens from many different sources. It is not out of the realm of possibility that one will be receiving tokens from 25-50 different sources each month within the next 5 years. Basically, most everything we do that is digitized will be tokenized.
For this reason I laugh at some of the disputes about the basic income idea. Personally I believe there will be basic income yet it matters not what the governments do. They are not required. Instead, the tokens will be giving people the basic income which will help them get the baseline necessities they need. Nevertheless, as this debate becomes more mainstream, those in the "know" keep arguing about how to pay for it. To me, this proves how few people realize what is taking place with crypto/blockchain and how powerful it really is.
Obviously, anyone who is contributing anything at all on Steemit (or the steem blockchain) understands what I am referring to. We all are receiving an income of some sort on here. Each time we hit the upvote button, it carries some type of monetary value. While it is not a significant amount in the beginning, it does grow over time as we participate more. At this point, many of us are reinvesting the proceeds (powering up) since that increases our future earnings plus there is a high probably of sensational growth of this token. Personally, I am willing to sacrifice short-term income for long-term gains.
STEEM is the first of many tokens that each of us is going to be receiving.
The new mantra is "Get Paid For ___________________________________".
Last night, I came across something that I intuitively thought would take place. In fact, I mentioned it to a buddy of mine a few weeks ago when talking to him about blockchain and the potential of it.
Before going any further, I must state this company is in pre-ICO before launching their ICO next month. In no way is this post advocating this token or the company that is setting this up. I have not read the white paper, therefore, have no an opinion on the situation. Personally, I do not touch ICOs so, from this perspective, it is not a relevant issue to me.
What is relevant is the fact that this company is dealing with independent film makers. This is what I thought would be part of the early blockchain penetration. Most films that are made never see a movie theater nor do they do much in the rental market. The challenge for small, independent studios is they do not have the clout to compete with the major entities. Of course, one of the reasons is the major movie studios own many of the theaters, hence keeping the competition out.
So what we have is a token that is designed to not only reward the independent film makers but also pay people for watching the films.
"Get paid to watch movies".
Just like STEEM is a token that pays people to post, comment, and upvote, the APLC token (ApplauseCash) pays people to watch independent films. Using the blockchain to accomplish this enables the rewards to be divided up between the site Cinemawall, the film maker, and the viewers. Again, this is no different than how new STEEM is divided among the interface, content creator, curators, and witnesses.
Consider the transition in this field. A decade ago, we went to Blockbuster or Movie Gallery and got a couple movies for $7-$8. This was a good deal because 2 people at the movie theater cost $20 or more when drinks and popcorn were included. With the video rental, an unlimited number of people could watch yet the cassettes has to be picked up and returned.
Fast forward to now. For $10 a month we have Netflix which allows us to watch unlimited number of shows and movies that is on their platform. If you have a Prime membership, you also access to part of their video library for nothing. Therefore, for an insignificant sum to most, you have more videos than you can watch in a month.
Now we are seeing the emergence of the next generation. It is not good enough for something to be an insignificant amount or even free. Instead, people will have to be rewarded for their attention. We are moving rapidly into the "attention economy". You want my attention, pay me. That is the new model.
That is why I believe we are going to be in a tokenized world in a short period of time. If you want me to use something that you have, pay me. It is really that simple. Companies are accustomed to paying for attention, so this is nothing new. What is new is that they are not going to be paying Google, Facebook, or some television station for my attention but, rather me directly.
And the same holds true for you. If they want your attention, you will have to be paid.
For those of us on the STEEM blockchain, we know this intimately. However, STEEM is just token number 1 that you will be receiving. There are many more to follow.
Perhaps even some tokens for viewing, upvoting, and commenting on films.
Watch out Netflix.

I wonder if we will ever see the day when the UN agrees to seed a global universal income token with large amounts of cash. The initial problem would be getting internet and access to the places and people that need it most. I also can see that money going to “all people” might be a problem. But perhaps most “rich” would not bother to collect small payouts or would donate them back into the system or direct them to the places they see need.
That is what Manna is for...that is why I put the link at the end of each of my posts....it is right there.
A cryptocurrency that is a basic income...that is what it was designed for. There is no reason for any government entity involved in any of it. The blockchain can run it better.
Thanks @taskmaster445 for showing us the vision of tomorrow's tokenized world in the attention economy. First we had costly products that we had to buy to consume, with digitization and Internet, there came subscription based products for low cost. At some point, products became free to use (Facebook, Gmail, Youtube etc.). Now, in the attention economy, we are going to be paid for consuming the products. In this new paradigm shift, STEEM and cryptocurrency in general, is leading the ways to eradicate poverty, joblessness and underemployments. Indeed, accumulating STEEM is a big opportunity for us to take stakes in the upcoming world of tokens. Tokens for all kinds of attentions!
Thank you for the insightful comment @riseofth.
You summed it up perfectly.
You use the movie industry as an example - I have been amazed at how resistant to change that industry has been, spending time chasing down illegal viewing instead of finding a new model. I suspect we will be in for more of the same - resistance from those that have the most profit to lose and refusal to consider new ways unless there is no other choice. Great, informative post, as always!
I can already see this slogan appear in the near future: "Do what you can do best! Get paid to watch porn!" ;))
I can tell you things were a lot different when I was 14.
We didnt have access to this stuff....a Penthouse stolen from one of the kid's dads was a major coup.
I agree this is coming but I also think we will see many flops before it happens.
What each of these tokens need is a passionate community like we have here on Steem. Without that, they will fail. Of course monetary incentives are a good way to create passion, but it goes beyond that. For a long time the money was small time on Steem but the core community kept it going forward.
Another factor is network ownership. On Steem we are the owners. For me this makes a huge difference. Places like Sola.ai have alot to offer but I don't own the network no matter how many Sol tokens I possess. For that reason, I can be censored or even banned.
These are things I think about when I look at emerging tokens that are aiming to be part of this space.
Thanks for the post.
Keep Steeming!
It is crucial that token be on decentralized networks. Those that are centralized are not really blockchains but just a different form of a shared database.
There will be a ton of tokens that do not get used....that is what is awesome about it all....people choose what tokens they want by the network they desire. As I wrote yesterday, Steemit is the flagship app on STEEM right now....there might be a better interface a year or two from now....who knows.
People get to decide which gives it the value.
That's an interesting concept. .. I was actually hoping DTube would be the future of movies.... where the creator can get paid directly by the consumers. .. cutting out the distributers and advertisers.
This ICO is a step above that. .. and a very interesting turn of events. I often think that Steem is payment for effort.... the more effort I put in, the better I do... so it is a logical step that I might get paid a little bit to watch an independent film or get paid a lot to create a boring spreadsheet for a corporation. It'll be my choice on how much I want to make.
It also raises the question on what advertising will look like in the future.... maybe it's not required at all... it might just be who is supplying the most tokens.
Someone needs to build a website that lists all the available tokens for us to earn for our effort.
The future of advertising in my view is summed up in the Brave browser...that lets nothing through....they created the BAT to go along with it, although they are not tied together at this point.
Only ads that you approve of (and are paid to watch) get through. You are paid not FB of GOOG.
What I dont like is the BAT is not decentralized...that is a drawback to me.
Very interesting thoughts, you are correct how we earn money is changing as is how we expect to get paid for things see used to pay to do. I think it high time that some of the billions spent on marketing comes back to those using the product as without us there would be no need for the products.
I've not heard of this ICO before but like @aussieninja it would have been awesome of dtube could have been ideal for this. Who knows maybe it still can be.
It's interesting times we live it and for the first time in a long time I can see the way out of a traditional job.
Odd questions with Steem power and the upcoming fork and tokens, how does that work?
There is nothing to stop people from posting their stuff on D.Tube.
It is up to the individual...and where there is more money.
In the end, in a free system like this, film makers can go where they make the most.
If D.Tube pays better, that is where it will be.
It works just like Bitcoin....the blockchain is forked and there are two separate entities from that point forward. Anything that is developed and goes on STEEM is on there...if it goes on the other blockchain, it is there. Even though they have the same basic code..they are located on different "forks". Of course, it makes it easy to switch over or copy onto the other is so desired.
Ok thanks. So what happens if your steem is in steem power. Do you get a split of that or only Steem you hold?
If this does well with indie films, big budget flicks won’t be far behind.
Bollywood before Hollywood though?
My thoughts exactly @preparedwombat.
Hollywood Studios, if they sniff money, will follow suit.
Imagine going to the movie theater and then paying you to come in.
Not sure who will pay for the popcorn though....that might need to be worked out.
The future sounds better and better :)
I still haven't receive the mail from the manna people. I hope it will come soon.
Yeah, waiting on Manna too.
We all are....it is tiring working on my patience. LOL
So it’s not just me. 😎
We are just beginning to see what the potential is of a tokenized world really is. Steem is just a small part of that. The world of tokens is about to explode...
I will guess that most of us will be getting at least 10-20 by this time next year.
There are so many coming online throughout this year.
Totally agree. And as you earn, your tokens will be stored in your digital wallet, which could allow you to trade one type of token for another, allowing you to use tokens from one place to buy/power-up from another.
What will be really interesting, is that a few years out again, all this will be managed by your AI assistant and stored biometrically, so you won't carry your tokens around, they'll just be there.
Is there a science fiction tag on here?!?
LOL @m-ssed-t
What is Sci-Fi today is reality tomorrow.
Get paid to smoke Marlboro.
Get paid to drink Guinness Extra Stout.
It’s just a matter of time.
Yes I agree it will be.
All behavior will use incentives...even the ones that arent healthy.
Heck we know for a fact that porn is on the way.....can booze, cigarettes, and a brothel outside of Vegas be far behind.
This was a very interesting article and made me think about a lot of things.
Where I live, it is nearly impossible to live by yourself off of the minimum wage. I have two friends who both work and live together, and still have to do things like collect coupons and get money off of rebates so that they can actually still live.
I can see that in the YouTube and Twitch space, this has happened with videos games, as well as vlogging and just living your life.
A world that incentivizes productivity: producing quality content, producing quality movies, producing quality humanitarian works... The list goes on and on about how a tokenized world can empower mankind to do greater good than we have ever done before.
Really excited that we're adopting this concept in its earliest stage possible, damn that's just so cool!
Great post. I believe Steem will be in the $30 - 40 range by end of year. It would be a godsend if it hit $100. Just trying to power up as much as I can to prepare. Whether it's IBM using Blockchain for Global trade commerce or the roll out of the Smart Media Tokens on Steem Block chain or the increase in the Alexa rankings we are definitely going to see an explosion over the next couple of years.
"You want my attention, pay me"
I so hope you are correct on this statement!
With the way P2P is going you have a really good point here.
As for a tokenized world, 5G is coming and wont work without it.
Very motivational post. Hold on to steem however you can and if your material state allows, don't cash out yet. You won't regret it in the future, when you can cash out x times more.^^
This got me and the world is shifting towards this.
Tokenization presents an interesting avenue to the study of incentives, building blockchain protocols and applications will significantly change incentives for employees.
There is something by this what will happen that I don't like. Very expertly explained but still actual happenings although look excellent for us there is somethink that stink...🙇
I think tokenization is narrowing the economic flow cycles and loops. A film maker cannot pay you much if anything to watch a project they have already paid dearly for in time and capital. However, if both the audience and the filmmaker participate in a attention sharing economy they derive mutual value from participating in that (loyalty) process.
Great article! I just wrote this today - totally happened to stumble across the entire concept. But it's awesome!
https://busy.org/dtube/@petrajordan/youtubers-get-paid-with-usdbat-today-s-1-million-token-giveaway
We can support our favorite Youtube channels just by watching via the Brave browser and get paid in $BAT :) Just amazing times!
BAT is a centralized token though...I love the concept and the ones who started it but they centralized it.
To me, that is a turn off.
Hmmm... well, it seems that we’ll have to deal with centralized/decentralized tokens options. We’ll see what catches on...
Yup, we can all have basic income with or without the help of any government intervention. Government are not necessary, and taxes too....
I agree with you. Tokenization empowers the people!
This ICO makes sense to me.
What do you mean by Steem token generator?
Are you referring to SMT protocol? I have no idea...I am hoping we see it in this quarter.
That's it!
I appreciate to you ..Because sharing valuable post sharing. Waiting your next post.
Oo votes done
I believe that mankind will benefit @taskmaster4450
It is the very interesting article.

steemit is great project. steem will go to 30 $ soon, , steemit to the moon
I support you until the end very nice post thanks for info @taskmaster4450
Great article! I just posted about this. I linked to your article in the comments.

This post very nice..i like it,,thanks for sharing this post..resteemit..
yes you are right say...i agree with you...i appreciate your post..
rsteemit..
I still can't completely read your articles, maybe it's just about websites typography, idk. Anyways I know lbry link here https://lbry.io , it's not much like you earn by watching but they are like crypto version of vimeo.
I want more of this future.... but still not even news from Manna! Im getting anxious :D
I just noticed you had a lot of comments like this.... so I guess im not the only one. It is true though.
No word yet.....I check each day...twice a day.
Nothing....
I guess they feel I need to work on my patience some more..
Did you like your card? Flag deserving? :p
Yeah no shit....you got whacked because you mentioned one who the flagger is in a war with.
Let's see if my latest post will last... or if I get another one.
I am thinking the same! Thank you for sharing your view in such an well articulated form!!
We have too many coins on blockchain. I wonder how keep up with them? Steem, bitcoin are easy to track of but so many coins? How do you guys even keep up with it?

Yes the whole idea is catching on like wildfire. I found out about brave browser today which seems like a no brainer to me. The majority are not even aware of such things and when I have told friends they immediately think scam, because they have the 'you don't get something for nothing' attitude which has been druumed in to us all. And you do not get something for nothing but it is suprising what you do get something for in this new world. Thanks awesome post as all ways.
I have seen several other intelligent people predict huge prices in the future per steem. I, of course really hope those predictions are right!
But we must never forget the responsibility we have now as this community to make a steem a welcoming and positive place. I think we are important for the future success of the steem blockchain, so we need to keep making a steemit a great place for interactions.
The brave new world here we come. It explains a lot
Magnificent article. You are absolutely right. I do not do any actions for which I do not get paid, I try to do the same, but get paid for it. Thank you for making Steemit better. Good luck to you and good.
What do you mean @joe.public?
I am not following...projects like what?
In due time...we only have 50K daily active users. Wait until there are a million of them on here.
Although I imagine there are some on D.Tube.
