The Days Of Earning STEEM By Blogging Are Coming To A Close...And This Is A Great Thing For All Steemians!!!!

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Before everyone gets up in arms, notice I wrote "earning STEEM by blogging" and not blogging on the STEEM blockchain.

There will still be a ton of blogging on this blockchain going forward. In fact, it might become the defacto blogging platform.

The path of STEEM is at a crossroads as the platform develops. Certain experiments are going to fall by the wayside for more profitable avenues. This is the nature of development. The vision that one (or a group) has when starting out with a technology does not always result in that outcome. It is not uncommon for things to take a turn that was not predicted.

A number of posters including @exyle and @acidyo made mention of the same thing.

The @steemhunt way of funding their project is revolutionary. It is also going to change the path of those who are blogging on this blockchain. Basically, @steemhunt became a very large Orca in a matter of 24 hours. They were delegated SP from around 100 people (on average 2500 SP each) as a way to fund their project. In return, these Steemians are earning the new tokens that @steemhunt is issuing. They set aside half their total for Steemians who help fund their initiative.

Suddenly, many Steemians became investors. Instead of upvoting content themselves, that SP in now used by @steemhunt. This model is most likely going to be copied (I would if I were developing a SMT) meaning that the voting power is going to be in the hands of a few large accounts.

What this means is those medium sized accounts that supported you are without the same VP. While some delegating 2,500 SP might not change their vote much, bet the ranch this same individual will do it over and over as more projects come about. It only makes sense as a way to diversify and earn a nice return.

We also might see this hinder the bots since many of them rely on delegation. As more opportunities like @steemhunt exist, some holding large amounts of STEEM might find the alternative more attractive.

So what does this all mean?

While many might read this as a negative, it is the best thing that ever could happen. If you have any STEEM, hold onto it. The top end value just went up dramatically.

Simply put, STEEM is going to become very rare.

That means every account with STEEM has the potential to be very valuable.

It is a simply numbers game. STEEM has roughly 260M tokens outstanding. @steemhunt was able to suck up about .1% of them in one day. This is just one project. What happens if there are 10 or 20 going at the same time? Or 50? As SP gets harder to come by, people are going to enter the open market to buy STEEM and power up. This will add buying pressure which will push the price up.

Does this mean I should stop blogging?

In the short-term, absolutely not. We have a window where people can earn STEEM just like they were doing. However, anyone who is on here a while knows that the rewards are drifting lower. This only makes sense as more people are sharing in the reward pool each day. When I first started on here, there were around 20K on here a day. Now it is three times that number. The pool is roughly the same meaning that, all things being equal, there is 1/3 the payout for the same work (I know everything is not equal but you get the point).

The STEEM blockchain is no longer just for social media. It is now offers projects a means to funding. Hence, STEEM is now part of the financial arena offering fund-raising. This alone makes STEEM more valuable.

Since we anticipated the rewards decreasing as more people starting using this blockchain, the new model really does not change much. The main difference is that there will be a few large accounts with SP and a lot of smaller accounts. While one might be fortunate to get an upvote from one of the big guys, the numbers say otherwise. Plus, we are going to start seeing some heavy hitters join this blockchain who are very polished in their craft. This will also put a damper on the payouts.

Yet this is all good since STEEM is getting very precious.

What about the long-term prospects of being a content creator?

There are going to be a ton of them. Steemit is developing the Communities feature; do you think that is being done for no reason? The difference is you might see the payouts for most activities done in SMTs, including Steemit. @ned already floated the idea of Steemit creating a SMT that is has account based voting.

Any application on the STEEM blockchain, is going to have its own token. That means we will be getting paid in many different tokens depending upon which application we are using. Remember, they are all paired with STEEM so this is not a problem.

We also need to keep in mind that all bandwidth is acquired only with STEEM meaning that every SMT application is going to require STEEM. To maintain liquidity, ample enough STEEM is required in the DEX. Now, we add in the prospects of a large amount of SP held to fund projects.

This means, to me, there will be a lot of demand for STEEM. There simply is not enough to go around.

Content creators are going to have numerous ways of earning cryptocurrency on the STEEM blockchain. The rewards, overall, are only going to grow as more applications come online. That said, we might be seeing the end of the days as STEEM being a viable option for most as a payout.

Although, if STEEM is $100, even .1 SP is worth a pretty good amount.

Hang on kids, things might get absolutely insane around here with STEEM.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but many thousands per STEEM might be on the board.

If you found this article informative, please give it an upvote and resteem.

Thought it was the typical post from someone leaving the platform but it is not.
You should change the title. The post is outstanding.

Good suggestion...thank you.

Altered it.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but many thousands per STEEM might be on the board.

From your fingers to god's ears @taskmaster4450 😁 But I will be also happy if the price of 1 Steem gets to about $30-40. That will give me enough reason to quite my job :)

Personally, I wouldnt cry at $30 STEEM either.

Looking back at your old post and trying to learn from history. I'm not sure what I can learn, but 3 years later and Steem didn't get much better.

Blogging always seemed like an awkward transition for something greater. Steem has created an oversupply of blogs with no demand for them. We need more proof-of-brain projects.

Great insight into the future @edicted

As always, thank you for your informative posts @taskmaster4450

Would you happen to know who I can contact or how I can edit STEEM's whitepaper. I remember when I read it a while back ago, I noticed quite a few grammatical errors and typos. If big money comes in they will read this whitepaper and they may turned off by the errors in the whitepaper. Now, time is money. If I were to sit down and dedicate a few hours to perfect STEEM's whitepaper, how can I be compensated?

It is indeed getting harder to get some steem earnings by the day. But every steem earned now and using it to power up is the smartest thing to do.
While I really would like to see Steem growing to $100, I don’t see this happening within 5 years! But when it does, I will throw a small party!
According to my info, steem will not be prined for ever! When the printing stops and the SMTs keep on growing we could be sitting on a gold mine!
This printing will last another 20 years and will be close to my retirement. That’s why I do call Steem my reitrement funds 😂

According to my info, steem will not be prined for ever! When the printing stops...

Not true. The inflation rate is falling by 0.5% per year but when it hits 0.95% it will stay there. 20 years from now, a bit more than 6 million Steem will be created per year.

Thanks for giving me the correct information!
Do you mean per year or per day?

There MUST be an easier way to buy Steem! Steemit cryptocurrency money exchanges

Rather than go through one or more third parties, why not buy Steem from Steemit.com, or Steem.com? Am I making any sense here??? Or  am I being too simplistic here? Am I being an idiot for stating the obvious??

Buying through third parties is very discouraging and suspicious to most normal people.

The steem eco system could very easily set up there own e-commerce payment gateway. Why don't they?

Perhaps tere is strategic brand marketng reason to sell steem through third-party exchanges, istead of diect to customers..

It's already easy. If you use Blocktrades you can buy Steem super fast with Ether/Bitcoin or other major Cryptocurrencies. This is not complicated at all

Per year. From the FAQ:

Starting with the network's 16th hard fork in December 2016, Steem began creating new tokens at a yearly inflation rate of 9.5%. The inflation rate decreases at a rate of 0.01% every 250,000 blocks, or about 0.5% per year. The inflation will continue decreasing at this pace until the overall inflation rate reaches 0.95%. This will take about 20.5 years from the time hard fork 16 went into effect.

@preparedwombat.

Have the levels changed to be in the top .1%, 1%, 5% and 10% SP holders?

I know you ran the numbers a few weeks ago....do they change slowly or at a rapid pace?

I don’t follow it closely but will take a look tonight when I can use a computer; steemdb.com is a bit clunky from a phone.

Thank you sir....It is greatly appreciated.

Even without delegating to steemhunt, how many more 'airdrops to SP holders' do we need to see before people start seriously hoarding?

Eh yes, and once people are unwilling to power down the value of Steem spikes hard.

Oh yes. There are whales with bills in meatspace who'll be tempted to part with a chunk if the price climbs high enough, (which is great for flattening the distribution) but a lot of us are dug in pretty firm.
I'm not going anywhere :)

I know right? I'm pretty stoked just to have 1000 coins. Power down? No thanks. Maybe I'll move around some SBD just to show myself that I can but that's about it.

$3000 more than in your Facebook wallet ;)

Very good point @mattclarke.

All signs, no matter which angle taken, point to the exact end you refer to.

What airdrops are you referring to? I know VICE planned on doing one, then backed out. I only recently heard of one more but can't think of it right now...how many others have there been? Or are soon to be dropped?

100M tokens (20%) will be airdropped to Steemit users with 1:1 ratio to Steem Power until 100M tokens are claimed. This will cover about 50% of the total Steemit account.
https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemhunt/announcing-hunt-token-airdrops-for-steemians-smart-media-token-project

Gotcha, Steemhunt was the one I couldn't think of. Are there any more in the works that you know of?

None of which I'm aware. The immediate (at least short term) success of steemhunt will certainly encourage more such activity though.
It's a good time to hodl.

Really informative post, keep it up. There was a typo "blcockchain" which was a little amusing :D

Thanks for pointing it out.

Corrected it.

I must have thought I was on the Vice blockchain. LOL

I just want everyone to keep in mind that even if earning Steem becomes super hard, you will still be earning your fair share of money for your efforts when posting on the Steem platform, thanks to the SBDs and the many SMTs that you will be able to earn just by participating or fulfilling certain requirements on the various Steem apps! These tokens will be introduced into the platform and you will be able to trade on the internal market for Steem!

Exactly. The value will not go down since there will be so many other Tokens you will be able to earn and share around in the community.

STEEM has roughly 260M tokens outstanding. @steemhunt was able to suck up about 1% of them in one day.

Just wanted to clarify that they have picked up 0.1% of them!

You right...corrected.

You pretty much share the same outlook I have on STEEM and SMTs. EOS is going to do great things but STEEM has a much more robust ecosystem. One could even make another social media like ONO. But they have nothing like @dlive @musing @fundition and many other projects.

It's great if you can take a look at my ideas about promoting STEEM at the current moment. (Basically I think most people are going at it in the wrong way): https://steemit.com/steem/@vimukthi/a-radically-different-and-more-effective-way-to-promote-steem-that-can-deliver-much-better-results

If we're to get paid in different tokens, where is the best place to keep them??

i'm kind of perplexed by steemhunt still, they just find some goofy stuff available as far as i can tell

If you mean holding SMTs, then you can just hold them with your Steem account, which also functions like a wallet.

that sounds easy to me, ty !

You're welcome :)

I'm trying to understand this, but I really find it difficult.
For delegating Steem one gets Hunt tokens, right?
But how do you know the value (USD) of these tokens?
And what will @steemhunt do with all the SP they got delegated to them?

@steemhunt will fund their initiative by growing their account via upvoting. With an account of almost 300K SP, its votes are very powerful. Between self upvoting and curation, they stand to make a nice revenue stream. This is how they are funding it.

The tokens do not have value since they arent publicly traded. It is getting involved in the ICO without buying in. Those who delegate STEEM get issued SMTs tokens that will be converted to the STEEM blockchain when that protocol is released. At that time, the @steemhunt token will be paired with STEEM meaning it can be traded for STEEM.

So, in this case, self voting and friend voting to maximize earnings and get free publicity is good? And if the SMT does not come soon enough they can move to another blockchain later on. Like Vice.

Did you see the @timsaid post about Explorio on the trending page?

If this takes off as a wide spread funding mechanism, I think it will be good because...

-it almost guarantees that Steemit develops another token for content rewards probably using account based voting.
-a fair bit of the SP delegated to bots could end up with these projects. Since these projects are being built on the STEEM blockchain, they could impact the value of the ecosystem...especially if a couple hit it big.
-it will increase the value of STEEM that is out there since those that cannot get it delegated to them as the amount available gets scarcer, they will have to hit the open markets.

As for the switching to vice if there is a delay in SMT, I dont think Vice is working on the protocol. I would imagine they are going to take it from STEEM once it is released.

Thanks a lot for this further explanation. It remains difficult for me. But normally it just takes some time and then I understand.

I have to say, that from my perspective this looks like a very nice subject for a post. Because it looks like this is just to complex. Or do you think that 99% of people (so just ask a few in a shopping mall or bus station) will be able to understand this within 15 minutes?

Honestly most wont care to start.

They will see the opportunity to go on D.tube and earn DTube tokens for interacting on there.

Over time they will figure the nuances of converting those tokens to STEEM (or they might convert them to USD if DTube token becomes big enough).

And clickbait title of the week goes too.....

This is all very exciting stuff. It's going to be very beneficial in the long term for communities and the growth of SMTs in relation to the SBD. Kudos to @steemhunt too, the change in tactic and the announcement has been a true gamechanger, perspective wise.

grabs hold of something that's not moving

Well thought out article, you have managed to articulate exactly what I was thinking about the future of steem.

When I first started on the platform, I would debate at length with people thinking that steemit would replace facebook. But Ive always believed that it is more likely to replace long form content platforms such wordpress, medium and the like.

There are endless applications for the steem blockchain and synergies amongst use cases for example, a steem based application which delivers long form written content with video. Eccommerce stores with built in video and blog channels an evolution to the home shopping business model.

I agree that earning just by blogging will likely become unsustainable, but as you said there will be many other ways in which steemians will be able to become successful through new experiences developed to utilize the steem blockchain.

I believe we probably will see a Facebook alternative on the STEEM blockchain but it will not be Steemit. Someone is developing that application somewhere in the world. That is the beauty of blockchain. Steemit will be a Reddit competitor especially with the communities upgrade.

Blogging will be a big part of this blockchain but, again, we might find the payout is in a SMT. Even on Steemit, we most likely will see a shift to a SMT for bloggers.

STEEM is going to be the fuel for the blockchain. And now that it is a funding mechanism, I foresee it becoming even scarcer.

People will always need content so there will always be a market for that. That will say people always will need more information but the platform we use might be different. But the core game is still here. That will say generate value and communicate properly to build up quality relationships.

I didnt know about @steemhunt before. I watched a video of @teamhumble talking about it this morning and now read your post. Well I would say thats a good opportunity for many people and mostly bloggers who are not earning enough or not have enough time to post. This is the new Trend and will hopefully bring many new investors to the blockchain :) Every project has its positive and negative side, so lets see only the positive one for the now and I am sure we will have better days.
Content creators will be always here, mostly users who didnt invest anything and earning their SP by sharing content.

This isn't a bad thing for people who've saved a lot of their earnings and invested early (that's how I got about 80% of my Steem Power--buying steem and powering it up). I power up all my payouts and have done so with about 95% or more of what I've earned here since I started. I want to hit 10K by the end of the year.

I suspected things would change over time and probably would be drastic changes eventually but that's what we get when we join something when it's in its infancy. I wasn't around for the days of payouts in the thousands of dollars being common but I'm glad I got in when I did.

I didn't know about @steemhunt and will definitely check it out. Might delegate a bit to it. I've got over half my SP delegated already...

imagine all the people that have got like over 1k sp right now.

and when STEEM soon somehow would hit like.... even 20$

think how much theyr upvotes will cost :D

Thanks for the update. Invest in steem folks!!

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but many thousands per STEEM might be on the board.

That would turn my wife into a true believer.

I think we share quite the same opinion on this matter. You've made so clear the point that I will only asked people (especially those who are inexperienced ) to reread that post again.

On the outside, I discovered that we share the same telegram group. I would have love to give you a buzz so we can share thought on some issues. You seems pretty knowledgeable about somethings that I would be interested in. Do I have your permission to message you?

Hit me up anytime @lordjames.

I respect your contribution on here.

Is it worth it to delegate a much smaller amount to steem hunt say 100 or 200 SP or something? If all these big accounts are doing 2500 is there any point? also 100 dollar steem would be sweet!

Hi @taskmaster4450 ! Very true what you are saying here. This Airdrop model: Getting SP delegations for @steemhunt in this case , and in return @steemhunt providing their token in reserve until SMTs are launched, is a great way to fund projects, instead of making ICOs.

And this is the start of this era for Steem!

By the way, I mentioned this post you made in my latest post: Steem Power Delegations Incentivized by Airdrops of SMTs future Tokens - New Way of Funding Projects on the Steem Blockchain

Looking forward to your feedback!

Regards, @gold84

Good point, the reward pool has a fixed amount so if the demand increases exponentially with the user base, the price will inevitably increase as well. More than a year ago you could earn something like 100 SP for a good post, back then it was worth maybe 10 dollars; nowadays you get 5/10 SP which is worth the same amount in dollars valuation anyway.
Going on it will be harder and harder to accumulate SP through blogging for sure.

The concept that @steemhunt introduced is different and is making a lot of people talking about it. I still think that blogging will be viable, 2 years ago you would receive hundreds if not thousands of STEEM in one post, now it is dozens, and sooner will become 1-2 STEEM but the "value associated with it will be the same".

What I´m trying to say is that STEEM blockchain might change a lot, but Steemit and other projects based on the same concept will emerge.

Yes exactly. It will still be the same game but just with something different.

It just gets better by the day! I will be sticking around!
Thanks always for sharing your knowledge with us @taskmaster4450

this is not something new.. things are like this since many months

When will we stop earning steem? Will we still earn SBD?

Good content,,Steemit is a good platform !!!But i think this is so vogas,,
Big whale take big, as like as rich may be richer,
LOL!!!!
I worked on this platform about 4 month,But profit is small which i invest!!!! selfishness is surrounding all over,,but some are different ,this is so little

You need to learn to give more value. The comment above for example is not organized properly so it looks messy.

i hate to sound revisionist but i think that the excitement of steem for any participant who has not invested just went south. in a way did we use the initial excitement to leapfrog on their efforts and then just blow by them when they don't matter anymore?

i guess economics always wins.

From my point of view, steem will grow up. It is known when and to what extent it will grow and it is safe and on the other hand I did not know the steemhunt project but as I can see it is a project which has potential which votes publications of people who discover pages of interest in the internet if I understood the operation well and you would confirm if I understood the operation of the project @taskmaster4450

Well that turned positive rather quickly. The way you explained made so much sense and I hope it all happens like that but either way I'm here for the rollercoaster.
Cheers for the awesome post :)

We will most definitely have interesting times ahead with Steem, HF20, SMTs, communities, preparation for scaling up, etc.

Excuse me while I go sell my soul to buy some more Steem!

Nice title it is sure to get people clicking.

I haev seen the Steemhunt account a couple of days ago when one of my communities saw it and dropped it on the avid token airdrop.

It is pretty interesting how they quickly got attention because they resonate with the idea of people getting paid more steem.

It will be interesting to see other projects doing the same thing.

Thanks for sharing such a great insights and truly steem is dynamaically growing in all spheres this is the power to hold on to

Funny you should mention that, researching whether I should delegate to @steemhunt is on my to do list for the weekend!

I concur with everything you say.... on the 'not being able to earn money from blogging front' for most people out there in the 'real' world, blogging is simply a means to drive traffic to their service, the thought of getting paid for it doesn't exist, and there are very few people, relatively speaking, earning money for vlogging about their lives - why should there be, most people's lives are extremely uninteresting (I include teamsteem's tedious daily vlogs with karenstudios in this category.)

Add to what you say the decreasing inflation rate of steem and the future looks pretty bright if you ask me, maybe in future it will become the norm to earn money through the Powerdown and Pause method?

I wouldn't ordinarily link to my own posts in comments, but my latest summary of the steem bluepaper really emphasizes how steemit really is just the tip of the iceberg - the plan from Steem Inc has, I believe, always been much bigger than just a relatively few people earning through posting photos of flowers!

Nice post.

There you go. In the near future, my $0.73 upvote will be worth $73! I look forward to that day!
