When returning from a long Steem break ...

in #steem5 years ago

Life happens, and when it does, we often have to change our plans. Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I am better now, but it may still be a couple more weeks before I am back at 100% (in regards to my energy level).

And last week, I had scheduled time off from work for some focused family time. Both of these events have caused me to be rather absent from the Steem community over the last 10 days. It has been nice to recoup and relax. It is nice to return as well.

For me, Steem is a community, a creative outlet, an investment, an entrepreneurial opportunity. When I give Steem my time and effort, I want to make sure I do so well so that I can bless others and be wise with my resources.

So what do I do now?

I started thinking about all of the Steem activities that I wanted to catch up on after being away so long. The following list includes items that are important (at least to me).

  • Start creating content - Creating quality content usually takes time and energy. I have had neither for the last two weeks.
  • Start engaging via comments and start upvoting - I want to support great content and great content creators. Manual curation is a fine way to support both. And I like thoughtful comments, so I want to provide the same
  • Check Discord channels - A lot of discussions take place on Discord. I will be catching up on the newest announcements of my favorite communities and projects.
  • Check my SBI total pending vote balance - My vote balance has been accruing while I have been away.
  • Adjust my autovoting - Yes, I autovote. Why? Because sometimes I get really sick or go on vacation. There are people that I want to support even when I feel like death warmed over. Now is a great time to re-evaluate who I autovote. Automation should not mean mindless repetition.
  • Check my delegations - It is a great time to check how I am using my Steem Power to support other communities or project. Whether I am delegating for profit or not, I need to make sure I feel comfortable with the people/projects/communities who are using my Steem Power. And, yes, it is my SP.
  • Check steemworld.org for new followers and mentions - I need to go and express appreciation to those who started following me, and I need to go and check out how people are using @sumatranate. Those mentions can be good or bad.
  • Go to Steem Enginge and claim token rewards - I always want to make sure that I am maximizing my token rewards, and often that means that I will stake the latest coins I received.
  • Enjoy a few Splinterlands Battles - Now that I am back, I will try to complete my daily reward quest.
  • Remember which tags to use - There are so many great new tribes and user interfaces. I don't want to miss out on using a tag, and I also want to make sure I don't misuse one.

I want to hear from you

Let's continue the conversation in the comments sections. I have some questions to keep us talking.

  1. What items in my list do you think are most important?
  2. What items did I forget to add to my list?
  3. What prevents you from spending time in the Steem community (sickness, vacation, etc)?

Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet! love to see what kind of activities you're up to on Steem. The only thing that really prevents me (@khaleelkazi) from spending more time on Steem is sitting.

I have a fractured back and I try not to sit for more than an hour at a time. So I sit for an hour, spend some time on Steem and then go for a walk or do something active for a little while and then come back to the blockchain.

I still tend to look at my phone a bit while out and about... so I guess the second barrier for me is that there are only 24 hours in the day and I spend most of them on Steem.. but what can I say.. I love this place! :)

Hey @steem.leo (@khaleelkazi)! I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

I am sorry to hear that you have a fractured back, but glad to hear that you have found a way to continue to do life (including Steem life). Do you use @actifit? With all of the moving you are doing you can earn even more crypto.

I totally get the 24 hour limitation, but honestly, I would not be able to run constantly. I need my sleep and rest.

Have a blessed day and see you around!

Really like that I stumbled on this post of yours after posting one myself...after maybe six months away from Steemit!! Maybe I never really managed to make it a habit to make content and interact with the community, but I will try again :)
I liked your post and have saved it, it was a great little reminder of what is going on in here and what is important.

Welcome back. You will notice some changes with the biggest being Steem-Engine (in my opinion at least).

I appreciate your kind words and thanks for saving my post. Blessings as you restart your Steem journey.

Thanks for the tip! I just googled it and two very different things come up... Steem-engine.com or steemengine.net... Could you tell me which one you are referring to?

Sorry that my message was not clear. https://steem-engine.com is the place to check out.

I have taken a major break from Steemit lately. I just don't have the time between all the kids, homework, cooking, cleaning, daily life, etc. Oh man...it's hard to get back to it, but I have a lot of ideas for posts!! Ah!!! Perhaps someday I'll find the time to daily be online again...

It is indeed hard to get everything in. I sometimes look at the people who are posting 3 times a day and ask, "How is that possible?"

I really appreciate you stopping by and hopefully you will be able to get back on a steady Steem schedule.

Yeah, sometimes you have to wonder about some of the three times a day posts... "Yes, that's a nice picture of your shoe there." ;)

To tell the truth, you have all the detail knowledge and understanding which will be used to grow as fast and achieve greater success in the platform.
It been nearly a year since I joined steem but have no idea about most of the issues which you have discussed in your post, especially those words which you have make a link to
Regarding what you want to hear from me; for me it’s much detail and professional. To be frank, I could not able to comment this post except forwarding my appreciation. Even, I just make a copy of your post for me to use as a reference and guiding checklist to do in the future.
I really loved it!!! Keep doing same!!!

@abrish - Thank you for your kinds words. It is hard to understand everything. I have slowly gained new knowledge, but I am always learn more everyday.

If you have any additional questions, just let me know. I will do my best to give you answers.

Thank you very much for your kind will. as i tried to mention in my previous comment. it been round a year since i joined steem, yet my progress and success in the platform is not as such satisfactory. I think it is because i did not get the foundation from where to build reputation, followers, important supporting networks, partnership with other steemians like you ..............
i will be very happy if i got any support or advice regarding these issues and other similar
thanks a lot

I think a lot if people fee the same way. I think it is important to connect with people. When you first join Steem it is often easier to make connections via comments than with new post (that is unless you already have a strong following). I recommend finding a few Steem role models that do what you want to do and then learn from their posts. For me I wanted to be like @reddust because she always was kind in the comment section.

I go every dat 3 times out to walk... I walk 1h and 45 min ... so I not think lot all time what is up here or go happen. And this Also help me to make photos what I can post every day.

Just go walk and smell nature also.👌🌟

I think it is great that you are walking so much and taking pictures. You should consider using Actifit. If is an app built on the Steem blockchain that pays you for your daily activity.

Jep I know this app ... but I use esteem 101% :)) And it is hard to use lot apps all time , if I start use them all I not have time to go out I must sit all time and look my phone and hold them very active. So I use one app... this give me more time to move and find photos :)) And Also I get more free time :)
