Hello Steemians,
Today we’d like to tell you about recent improvements we’ve made to our developer portal as well as our plans for continuing to improve it over time. This might be slightly technical for the average person; however, considering the critical role that developers play within the Steem ecosystem, we feel it is important to bring them to your attention.
Improving Documentation
While Steem has managed to accomplish much in its brief life, excellent documentation is one place where we’ve lagged behind. That’s why we’ve created a dedicated “Portal Team” - to ensure that every Steem developer has the information and resources they need to succeed.
Our Plan
We’ve started by adding a glossary of Steem-specific terms and beginner tutorials. Our plan is to update the portal with new information about every other week. As we continue to improve the portal, it will get easier for beginning developers to get started, and for more advanced developers to reference more obscure api calls.
Community Generated Materials
We are fortunate to have a community filled with engaged developers who have created very useful tutorials, some of which we will be adding to the portal. We will make these tutorials easier to find by aggregating them in a central location and enhancing them with helpful examples that use consistent best practices.
Feedback
The Portal Team is still at the beginning of this project, so we are very open to requests for specific tutorials and suggestions for improvement. Email any suggestions to Steemit’s Developer Advocate: da@steemit.com, with the title “devportal - $subject”.
Be sure to check out the developer portal here!
Team Steemit, Portal Squadron
P.S. Team Steemit recently published an update regarding Communities/Hivemind written by our very own @roadscape! If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out here.
Great to see another communication. I think it would be great if the steemitblog could be pinned somewhere easy to see, without having to go through the voting process.
Maybe a link in the hamburger menu?
Why not just follow it? That way the people who care can see it and the people who don't can ignore it. Facebook does the same with dedicated pages you can follow.
I follow lot's of things. :) sometimes there is a month between posts, so not really worth a daily check.
True, would be a good use for multiple feeds. I keep my followings so that I can't miss any post so it is not as much of a problem for me :)
I follow nearly everybody that has voted for me, so that when i have extra vote power i just go down my feed and hit the posts with less than a dollar that i think deserves more.
I keep up with steemitblog with steemvoter, but id still like to see a permalink in the hamburger menu for the newbs.
this will help a lot for new users glossary of Steem-specific terms, and improvements always needed for the betterment of the system.
Good karma good notes
tutorials for the beginners are needed. I see in the field so many new users who do not know how to use Steemit platform and they have no guide to direct them. such as the official article from steemit. so we old users have to hassle to serve new users, whereas we do not get Steemit's salary on this kind of work. lately I admit very busy with the number of new users in my area.
Good Info
Fantastic thanks for the update!
Thanks for the info, this should also help with 3rd parties who want to implement Smart Media Tokens into their platforms!
@steemitblog Please support RTL languages! It is very difficult to type RTL languages!
This is not a Steemit Blog post, but a Steem Blog post. Shouldn't devs know the difference??
Steemitblog is the account used by Steemit (the company) to publish updates.
Yes, but this post has nothing to do with Steemit... Irony?
Except that Steemit (the company) is posting about the updates that they are making
So, with the foresight of naming something "Steemit Inc", to discuss the developments on the Steemit platform via @steemitblog, they decided not to create something called "SMT Inc" or @smtblog. All the while, they know that the Steemit platform is only one small use case within the Steem Blockchain, and completely unrelated to Smart Media Tokens...
Sounds like laziness to me. And either purposefully or ignorantly misleading.
Looking forward to having a steemdev with excellent documentation.
This will increase the steem dApps production rate.
are there any updates regarding onboarding of new users or a simplified way to create new wallets?
we plan to create a platform on STEEM and besides the lack of documentation this is one of our greatest pain points. the question is:
-> how can we onboard new users in a quick and easy way into STEEM / our platform?
Right now the best option is probably to send them to signup.steemit.com. They will have to go through the verification process (which takes some time) but it is free for them to sign up because Steemit pays the account creation fee and gives them an initial delegation of Steem Power.
If you have the ability to pay the account creation fee (currently 0.1 STEEM per account) and delegate SP to each account (currently around 15 SP per account) then there are some other options available using the blockchain API.
do you know some sources about creation of accounts using blockchain api? although I doubt we can afford to pay all the fees for creating of a certain amount of users. especially not when assuming the user base grows at a fast pace :-/
steemit verification process takes currently takes too much time
Can you message me on steem.chat or Discord?
edit: ok I managed to find you :-)
Well I loved the feedback thing, also the tutorials will work a lot, updating portal with information every week is really a nice initiative took by the platform.
Every other week :)
Oo I missed it, thanks for making it correct
No problem :) The team is obviously working on it at all times, I believe this means they're just working in 2 weeks sprints (which if you're not aware is part of the agile process)
I too think the process is moving at a fast pace, well I would say this platform cares a lot about its users.
hi @steemitblog
I'm sorry, my reply did not match your topic, but there is one thing I want to ask, please let me know your answer.
I know The Steemit brand and logo are protected by intellectual property laws, including copyright and other proprietary rights of the United States and foreign countries. This is to allow Steemit to protect the brand and logo in ways that extend user safety. One may not make unauthorized commercial use of, reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display the Steemit logo or brand, except as permitted by the doctrine of fair use or as authorized in writing by us. Source.
I made a gif using the steemit logo, I have a plan to put this gif anywhere I make a post or reply to a post, am I allowed to do that? considering the steemit logos have copyright and I made a little change with my creations, if this violates the terms I will not continue everything about using this gif, please give me a statement. thanks.

.SteemiTag is an innovative program that helps users increase their gains in the curation rewards by voting on posts that are likely to get high payouts. It maximizes the chance of a user to be rewarded through an accurate selection algorithm that works 24/7 and eliminates "no rewards" problem for users with low Steem Power. You can participate in our program by clicking on this link and confirming your delegation. Your rewards will be sent to you in the form of weekly dividends. Thank you and keep up with your great work!
