I probably should have explained more, this isn't so much about bots, per se, as the perception that if they were gone, suddenly everybody would be successful, which comes from entitled thinking and lazy slackers mostly, who don't understand the bots are not in their way AT ALL, and 10000 people here earning money without them, sometimes at full-time levels, aren't hindered at all by their existence.

I don't understand it. The most successful people here may or may not use them, but either way, I have not had any trouble much getting success at a level I think is reasonable to me for what I do, despite their existence?
Most of the people here that complain about them the loudest, are mostly just looking for something to blame for their failure to do the work to network, like you and I have done all year, and to make friends and utilize the power of "social" and "networking"
i dont agree nor disagree. i think success can be had without the bots, and i get that people want to use them as tools for advertising (their money), but a lot centers on how people choose to define "success".
something you might want to consider is that not all people have your talent, drive, skills or ambition.
for as much as i try to network, my social skills are backwards and networking will always be a bit of a fail. it's important to realize that networking is not an easy skill for some people, so saying that people have failed to network or failed to do the work and thats why they arent successful, thats imho, wrong thinking. they just havent been successful at it.
on the other hand ive seen some people make it to dolphin upbotting material that otherwise might not make them more than a few dollars. upbotting is a "skill" in a sense, but it shouldnt be. that's like saying people who have extra money or who are willing to take a risk deserve the huge profit.
this sends the wrong signal out, that no matter how we believe in a new paradigm, we still have the mindset of the old one, where money equals power, or who you know (cronyism) gets you ahead.
at some point we need to decide if we want to support the same values that got us to the hole we are in today.
It all comes down to the notion of unrealistic expectations.
Instead of thinking that this could be more productive compared to all the time they used to spend on Facebook or Twitter, they come in here telling themselves that they should be earning a full-time wage.
Funny thing is, they don't try to understand what is going on here before making "suggestions".
One of the biggest reasons I joined steemit was to be more productive than I was on Facebook. I spend way more time here than I ever did there, but at least now I feel good about it. I feel like I'm supporting someone (with comments at least) or building my reputation and actually writing. It's neat. And I get ridiculously excited when something I post makes even twenty cents.
No really, I do. Not cause I'm hard up for twenty cents, but because I adore the fact that someone looked what I wrote well enough to upvote it.

Curious, while I don't use em either, because I know they are a financial loss, after curation is cut out of the roi, why you think they are poison. What have they done to damage you directly? What have they stopped you from doing?
They clog up the feeds with shit posts have you seen the trending posts most of them are bid bot driven> I do my stuff regardless but many people leave the platform because all they can find is shit content voted up by bots ... I really believe it would be better without them ...
okay, yes, I've been here forever, I've heard all the "bad for the platform" stuff, and yes, of course Im aware of everyone's beef with trending, but those aren't what I asked.

it is hard to say as i cannot gage how much more exposure i would have, but i do think that my content is superior to a lot of the trending stuff so I would have to say gain more exposure. they are making it harder for me to be seen ...

I'm not grumpy :) I'm just trying to figure out how bid bots keep hurting people. They haven't hurt me. I ignore them. I wouldn't trend anyway and don't really care. That would still take hundreds in upvotes, anyway. Even without any bots, that ain't happening.
I have tried my best, in fact, against all odds the community sent me to trend without them XD which was a funny statement I guess... I've tried my best, and I try my best I wish I could post more but well they don't do nothing against me, I don't even check trend, to be honest, but they disuade true talent from coming in... like I try to convince fellow legit artists and they have a quick glance and they say, this is a scam, a crap, see this talent making cents and these shitposters doing hundreds, and THEY GO, and what can I say against that? that the game is rigged? It is... It's not my war either, I just post.

I think we were referring to bidbots, and actually not bidbots per se but the abuse of them, aka shitposting and bidbotting it to trend. :) hahah I think neither of us go into that category... we can never say I'll never drink from this cup in the future, frustration (on a a rigged system) can do odd things but well so far we´ve handled really well. I had a big account quite harshly (don't think ill intended) telling me once I would always be on zeroland without them... well... here I am.
