Steemit could change the game for artists

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

This is the beginning of my success story.

I put a lot of work into my paintings and like most of you, I get little to no reward for posting. Granted, the networking has helped a lot and has helped me over the years sell most of my paintings and get into shows, etc.  Something just never seemed fitting to me though. There was always a disconnect, "the reality of cost" would be my guess and steemit changes that economical sense.  I call the "upvote" the "appreciation button". I can't tell you how many times people have said "ohhh i want that!" or "can you paint me something?". Now, I'm not complaining--honestly--but there is money attached to these types of requests and puts a lot of artist in a tough spot. People are unpredictable, sometimes too compulsive at best and painting is expensive! That's why there are so many starving artists.  Only the rich art has survived over the centuries.  Face the facts: we wouldn't have computers either if it wasn't for the rich, they created the demand and now it's affordable to the masses.

There are hard working people looking for an opportunity to express themselves.  Work is the backbone of productivity.  Working 10, 12 hour days for my family business that provides commercial lines to restaurants hotels and country clubs is just a piece of the puzzle. I care about my job because of the relationships I've gained over the years but really most of my paycheck goes to art supplies and there's really no consistent stream of income to afford it.  Financially, it makes no sense why I'm even painting. I probably could have traveled the world or raised three healthy children by now (I don't have any kids).

I'd like to get into the money supply of steem but I'm not going too.  I know there's a bunch of articles out there on it.  Right now it works, and you can get bitcoins for your steem dollars then change it for USD just for posting and getting upvotes.  Already I can afford to buy a new paint brush just from a couple of  posts and that means the world to me! So for now I'm just giving my 2 cents on how sharing can provide an incentive.  Some guy in a third world country is making bank! Now that's special and good for him! I'm just going to use steemit from now on and see where it goes. I'm not looking for the $1,000 main trending article. Every little bit counts, so thank you for your support!  This could be the game changer for all of us.

like to share 4 acrylic paintings that I've done when i was playing around with a few different mediums.  I mostly work with oil.

The canvas owns three dimensions: Length, width, and the third one is artistic, it is depth.  Along my career i try to add a fourth one, Life.   There's endless possibilities with a blank canvas, allow your imagination run free and have fun.

Love your stuff! It's got a real urban/graffiti type of vibe. What are your influences, if I may ask?

Thank you! Thats kind of a tough question to answer haha. Most of my influences come from music, and day to day experiences really. A lot of the time, i'll write down an idea and see how it materializes, kind of like putting together a puzzle. I do live near boston ma, and will go walking around the city, checking out local graffiti art.

Awesome stuff man, Boston is a great city. I can imagine how it can be inspirational!

Most definitely! Hit me via #steemit if you ever come back around. I'm on some really fun projects at the moment. Requests from around the world, can't wait to share it on steemit.

Upvoting because content. We the creative contributors have to take things in our own hands and start voting each other up, to prove if only to ourselves that something less ephemeral than today's hot topics can trend. I know tagging is tough, and tagging as #steem puts you in a hot feed, but do you also tag as #art?

You just had me check my tags, i know tagged #steemit but for some reason it wasnt there and there was double lettering almost like it was a glitch. I don't know but you are right it is important.

Sean, how long have you been painting?

I've been painting for over 14 years now.
