Follow up: Follow for Follow and Unfollow

in #steem7 years ago

Some time ago I 'complained' about the newcomers here who just followed millions of people to increase their follower count. After reaching a huge number of followers they just unfollow to nearly zero. I figured that while checking the ones who unfollowed me and nearly all of them did that.

Today I checked some of them again and realized that this strategy doesn't seem to be wildly successful.

Some are posting like crazy. And not necessarily meaningful stuff. The outcome? Not exciting. I got more rewards with just a few posts than some of these with hundreds (ok, I'm exaggerating) while having just a tenth of followers.

This convinces me that providing quality content here counts more than just the sheer number of followers (Not claiming that my posts are of high quality 😉). I just hope that people with useful content will win in the long run.

Steem on..

me too!

It's not just your quality posts; it's also about quality followers.

Those who follow back each person who follow them are most of the time, newbies, who want to fetch more and more money without doing much. They have little to no steem power and their upvotes aren't of much worth.

The one's who are well settled here have much more steam power, but they don't involve themselves in such shits. When they follow someone, it's because that person is worth following or he/she got a sexy ass (in a few cases, maybe).

So all we can conclude here is that quality matters everywhere. Bulk shitposting ain't gonna help in the long run. Over that, low-quality followers in bulk< fewer high-quality followers.

Ohh well, it seems you are worth following too. Followed. Looking for some more quality posts from you in future :)

Very good point. I wonder if there's a way to get some stats about quality followers and junk followers?!
I'll think about it..

I'll also probably should check again now after the Hardfork and if that changed anything ;)

Getting some meaningful stats might be hard. What's better is to focus on engaging more in the community and adding some value to it. Quality followers will eventually come your way. ^_^
Haven't tried this on Steemit yet. However, this worked fine over other platforms. Should work here too!

True. But I'm checking the steem API anyway while building new things for steem.. thats just a little thought besides. Providing something useful is the key!

Very Useful and motivational Content . I like it.Good is always good. Steemit only want creating and meaning ful writing .

I don't think there's much use in blindly following people, even if they follow you back, they don't up vote you, since they don't really care about what you have to say.

You have the rights words. YOU will have some faithful followers I think. =)
