I don't want to join the nomination but I'd like to expose my project around Steem. It's a plugin that allows Steem to be accepted as one of the payment method options for WooCommerce (It's an ecommerce site plugin for WordPress).
You can follow the project at:
https://steemit.com/steem/@recrypto/woocommerce-steam-1-0-0-beta
You can also contribute to the public repository if your are a techie. We're still in beta and approximately 2 days from now, I'll be requesting this plugin to be added to WordPress Plugin Repository.
Thanks!
Project noted.
Thanks, greatly appreciate it. :)
@recrypto is there any way to make a stand-alone plug-in for Wordpess? WooCommerce (as far as I understand) takes credit card information before passing the customer off to the payment gateway. This means the shop owner could be liable for any security breach where credit card information is stolen. In order to avoid that situation, many small entrepreneurs choose to use Simple PayPal Shopping Cart, where the customer is passed off to PayPal and THEY collect the credit card information. If these smaller businesses could trade directly in Steem, I think it would be a huge plus.
@happyme WooCommerce doesn't work that way. Once a customer checks out, the customer is presented with list of accepted payment methods set by the shop owner.
If you choose Paypal for example, you will be redirected to Paypal landing page for paying your order.
If you choose Steem as payment method, you will be redirected to the internal WooCommerce Order page with the payee, amount, and memo details so you can send your transfer.
You are NOT asked NOR required to input your credit card information BEFORE choosing a payment method as that would be absurd. ;)
Thanks! I guess I misunderstood the process then. There are so many open source e-commerce platforms / software; any plans to spread to some of the others?
No problem at all. :)
Yes, I'll be looking at different e-commerce platforms that is built in PHP programming language. Once I finished a stable version and release this on WordPress Plugin Repository, I'll move on creating another extension for other e-commerce platforms.
Sweet. I wish I had the smarts to do something like that. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to programming.
If you're interested, you can start the basics. It's never too late to learn. :)
I'm trying to learn how to do 3D modelling and animation now. But then I got distracted by Steemit.com and have been learning about that and attempting to build a following. My neighbour wants me to rebuild her fence and lift up her 2-story shed to repair the rot on one or 2 walls of the shed. Plus a whole pile more jobs that have been waiting for me to get to for the past few years. There just aren't enough hours in a day (or week for that matter) for me to manage to learn everything! LOL 😳
@happyme As for credit card information as payment method, WooCommerce has a tokenize mechanism that handles this for added security measures when dealing with this type of sensitive information.
@happyme I don't blame you as you might have experienced this with some CUSTOMIZED WooCommerce shops but by DEFAULT WooCommerce doesn't behave like this. :)
I've never actually used Woocommerce. I only read about it while trying to find something suitable for a friend of mine to use on his WordPress-powered site.
