I do believe a few people got out of poverty due to Steemit, I am not sure if debt specifically was paid off. Take for example @infovore, he got out of poverty thanks to Steemit!

I think the "out of poverty" stories are more interesting. Andreas Antanopolous talks a lot about "the other 6 Billion" and how cryptocurrency will help these people in developing nations. That's a redistribution of wealth I can get behind.
It's not redistribution, it's creation of wealth for the poor people. People can lift themselves up if they have the right tools, I think many inspirational stories can be found there. Paying off a debt is kinda boring topic, but going from a hut into a house with swimming pool is definitely powerful and inspirational.
I understand that "redistribution of wealth" is something that "government" does, and I agree with you completely. I was speaking poetically...or euphemistically.
