I tried to log in and I entered my posting key (I think that's what it say to enter). I got back to the home page and when I click on the 'my account' it does not give the drop down menu shown in your example, it just shows login. I read your post and you say that I should have entered the active key. Is there a way I can reset. I tried to log out of steemit and I tried to turn off the computer but I can't seem to reset it.

It's okay, you can just close your browser or open an incognito/private browsing tab, or use another browser. Simply go to https://minnowbooster.com and follow the steps again. If it doesn't work, contact @reggaemuffin on STEEM or Discord.
