The secret to growing on Steem - A response to that one trending post

in #steem6 years ago

I know a lot of people keep on falling for the "secrets" behind the paywalls. Well, here is my attempt to share some sensical ideas on this whole debacle.

What do you guys think?

I literally wasted my life trying to talk under that trending post. I left a link in my first comment there and once clicked we see a night and day difference between the response these shortcut BS artists receive and those with actual experience. I laid into that character calmly, and came out feeling hated and now today I don't even have a post of my own to share because what those people are doing brings me down. All I can think of writing is a humorous rant of sorts and I'm beginning to hate the sound of my voice inside my head when I think of these things. L-O-L

I actually saw you in the comments my friend, you inspired this little video in many ways.

I don't feel so alone now. Thank you.

For the record: I do not enjoy making a scene under blog posts. I'd much rather sit back, chill, have fun, shoot the shit, whatever.

I'm going to go get a beer and look up the rant in question. BRB

hey can you post the link? give me a shortcut? lol ;) i'm also going for another beer!

Try this. It might take more than one beer.

I found it hopeful that more than one commenter pointed out the flaws in this particular scheme. @nonameslefttouse was just the most articulate and persistent.

i am on my second beer and watching for you :)

still trying to figure out how to inspire you, will take some ninja skills i guess

As all the experienced people I have seen on here have said, it is about building relationships. That is the shortcut. You can spend a lot of time on content, but relationships make your content valuable.

You can spend a lot of time on content, but relationships make your content valuable.

As my little brother usually says.... BOOOM

it's all about the people, i have learned this too....BOOM

So i guess if only relationships make your content valuable, you worth as a creator is only as good as other people. I guess kafka and Van gough should have spent less time creating things and more time socializing.

If they wish to succeed on DTube and Steemit before they die, then yes.

I think to point out anecdotal exceptions is to resist the bell curve in a futile way m1 . I know where you are coming from, we seem to have this conversation quite often, but you still holds on to exceptions when you present your points.

What you see as a bell curve I see as a linear path where choice is irrelevant of context. I merely raise the points of contrast to show how easily we attribute a perceived victory to path based on absolutes.

I had to say the exact same thing today. Sad that someone who has been here two weeks or so is looking for shortcuts.

unrealistic initial expectations are also the fastest way to disappointment.

short cuts are the long way...weird how that works

It is but there are no tricks either lol.

the trick is there are no tricks!

That's exactly right! There IS no secret... other than working hard, adding value and being actively engaged.

One of the great challenges/problems Steemit faces — as a community — is that people now have two years of having been "taught" that you can go on Steemit and make money posting stuff.

Whereas that is true, the attached expectations are completely out of line, and that makes all those relative newbies looking for a "method" or "shortcut" particularly susceptible to falling for the charms and promises of the "snake oil salesmen" peddling their methods.

Actually reminds me of some of the ancient scams still doing the rounds on the web: "The secret program to making money on the Internet! Just $49.95! Order yours now, and learn the amazing secret!"

Of course, there IS no "secret;" the ostensible "secret" is to talk other people into giving you $49.95 for something that doesn't exist.

i don't believe this to be entirely true, but on this case maybe... those who can't do, teach. - I think that's how it goes...

hahahah i love that movie so no worries

what? you got $90 on this? it's the damn hair man the hair! its better than Ned's .. check it @whatsup ... baha

hahahhhaahha im in a competish with Ned?

there might be NO competition ... its a latin thang ... ok i got latin but i can say it bc i'm part latina .... dont care what noboddyyZZZ says

PS the only way to really grow on STEEM is HARD fckn Work! Period

hard work is right, it takes a lot to succeed here, much more than I ever imagined. I guess nudity in the forest blowing darts doesn't take me to the top

yes mah vlad!! love mah vlad! :)
it does in my book --- the naked in the woods partssss :p

i know your book is really good, i can't put it down :)

someday soon and thank you my friend. ;)

Well, a spare million euro doesn't hurt either!

hey what are you doing on musing? sneaky bengy baha

Musing what what? I'm not on musing! Amusing?

weird, your comment on my musing question came up

A response to that one trending post

LOLOLOL and yeah, so agree with you here, it takes work! :)

I wonder how many people end up paying the 9.99 right? Lol

I to be honest never watched those myself even though, it's on trending page all the time. Sounds too scammy to me

The shortcut is not a logger solution it's a shorter option. Great information bro @meno.

a fork in the road, HF20, which path will we take?

Its much better when people enter the system with the right mindset of not searching for easy way or like cryptoandcoffee has said shortcut....it helps to remain focused on your goals personal development, unfortunately there is a multitude out there preaching otherwise, so there is a need for us as individuals to spread the right word as you have done, this is our home, and we have to take care of it so thanks for this video... I'm glad I started on the right foot.

You got a healthy attitude brother, that is always going to be "your advantage"

it's all about the mindset, trying to keep mine positive even if it takes everything i got, been hard lately but working hard to keep it high

i'm allergic to work... can't i get paid for playing?

i am highly allergic to work, finally someone understands me

I also ran into that video and had some time so watched it and was somewhat disappointed by the content as it seemed like bait and I have not been used to this on the platform. If it were this easy or if shortcuts existed, I would question its long term viability so I agree that hardwork and consistency remains the key factor to grow here.

its almost a modus operandi brother... I mean, no hate, but... again, how do you fight misinformation? with some truth.

Thank you so much. No shortcuts here. We've all got to do the work. Great stuff and thanks for sharing.

Great @meno!!! Yeah, no secret, no trick!!!
I can't stand those posts :-(
Totally agree with you!
Have a great weekend!
Steemitri The Mannequin

thank you Mannequin!!

the only keys for success in my opinion is quality posting and interaction. When i say interaction i don't only mean to make comments. Apparently you need to dedicate a lot of time both in making comments you need to involved with communities, take part in contests etc etc.

All those that promise fast money and quick ways to be successful are just scammers and i said it politely!

100% that is truly the only way... get involved with others.

Preach it!
There are no short cuts on SteemIt! gotta work for it.

@meno knows, that's how we do it, lift and lean

great points. a lot of the training i’m doing i state that fact. there is no quick way to succeed here.

it’s literally. get in line. stay in line. and make sure you add value each and every day.

i loved what you said about anything that matters will take time to build. and i believe steem is something to spend the time to build it right.

That guy is seriously selling courses for $9.99 on how to be a successful steem user?

Unbelievable.

hahahahha we missing out brother!

I hate to admit it.... but that was my first thought too. :)

need to cancel my netflix so i can afford this 9.99

Also what we would like to add is that most of the time the information you can get on these "courses" is free and you just have to find it.

Best Regards,
Mysteor Team

free is sometimes not free but better than an out right pitch for a price.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

damn straight, conjuring the haiku bot is my new thing i guess

hey, @meno.

I agree. It is about hard work. At least for those of us who are not among the fortunate few, and even then, as you said, there's generally more to it for them than luck, also.

It's amazing how we so many of us can think that things are going to go instantly our way because of whatever cosmic alignment of skills, networking, timing, fortune, talent and subject matter we bring to the table, without realizing that most of us will be writing similar things, with similar abilities and expecting somehow to standout above the rest.

Perhaps that will be the case at some point, but it usually takes time to rise to the top. How long? I don't know yet. I'm nine months in. Not much rising yet.

There has, however, been some thinning going on around us. So, maybe I'll make it by attrition, too. Hard work and attrition. :)

im one year in brother, and at times I gotta pump myself up too, just to keep going!

Seems to be the nature of the place, if not the beast in general. But, as I seem to find myself saying when it comes to what I've done here versus anywhere else—while it's nowhere near a living wage, it blows away everything else I've ever tried for writing or creativity. And that's with STEEM under $1 USD.

So, onward and upward it is. :)

I think that cat outside is really wanting fed ;0D

they feed the cat sbd :)

tell me the deep dark secrets now meno!

Dear friend, I'm happy and proud to meet you on this platform, you are a user who loves Steemit very much, and that fills me with a lot of emotion. Although I don't understand your words very well, I know you are very excited to talk about Steemit
thanks for telling us everything, friend @meno
Again...
THANK YOU!

There is no secret - you have to work.

Just a quick shortcut ;)

hahahah yes, pretty much

you have increased your haha, to hahahah, interesting, an H at the end, would love to hear how this sounds on voice.

Exactly!

a man of few words, i like it!

It's basically the same as any other social platform except that people try to bait you with suspicious bots so thank you very much for this video! :)

It's nice to see the Steem "network" not getting blown away with cancerous content shitposting (yet)

Definitely - You have to work!

you just hating...joe is the guru I need...

@meno don't hate, you got the wrong impression...to each their own.

did you buy his course ?

i don't pay for things like this, there are way too many people in my network willing to help for free, and I spend many hours a day giving it away too, i don't have time to rely on people selling stuff at the moment. did you?

I already know the secret

Either work for it -sweat equity
Or pay for it - capital equity

BTW , I still regret paying for uni education , highly unlikely for me to pay for Joe's "course"..

I'll explain it easily:

Batman is the hero they needed, but didn’t deserve

Dent is the hero they deserved, but didn’t need

BOOM

Saying Boom after a sentence doesn't make it right. .

BOOM !!

Good advice :)

There's no secret, i agree, but considering you already have great content, there are ways to sell it better and get more attention.

There are no get rich quick schemes. That's just someone else getting rich off you.

You are absolutely right @meno. I was an online marketer for years. The best way to make it anywhere is with commitment, consistency, dedication and a lot of hard work like you said. There is no secret on "Putting in the Work". Great Video Brother. Appreciate your "Honesty" and for letting others know the "Truth". Stay Blessed and Positive.

@meno Thanks for speaking the truth (: Truly.

I think it all boils down to what the individual is looking for on Steemit. The author of the trending post is looking for profit, full-stop. Just, pure commercialization. And his approach will definitely earn him money but burn bridges.

Now it is not that we do not hope to reap from our investments on this platform. We all still do (or I can speak for myself), but not at the expense of relationships and community.

Congratulations @meno!
