RE: The reason to stockpile Steem (for SP) right now

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

My boyfriend always asks me why I don't just cash out my crypto and not take the risk that it's all going to go away. The reality is that I don't have the money to invest in more stuff, but I did have the money to invest in the amount I have now, and I work hard for the STEEM I get on here. (Yes, I actually followed the advice everyone gets--don't invest more than you can afford to lose.) The way I look at it, the amount of crypto I have in my Blockfolio and the amount of STEEM I have on here isn't enough to change my life. But it does have the potential to change my life one day, no matter how slight it is. If I had more disposable income, I would invest a bit in STEEM right now--again, not more than I'm comfortable losing. There's plenty of money in the crypto market, and STEEM is very liquid relative to most cryptos since it's been around so long. All you need is for a tiny fraction of the money invested in shitty altcoins that aren't going anywhere to move into STEEM and we'll have a much higher market cap, and people are getting sick of those projects that looked promising in December and January and ended up being empty promises.

Good on you for investing more--I wish you all the best of luck. Wish I could join you on it!

I believe in diversification. I also believe in taking calculated risks. Steem in my opinion with 1 million users has the potential to be around as long as Reddit and similar sites. Steem is also not a crypto which is likely to be banned due to the excessive transparency. Steem is also the most bank like because it offers account recovery and when there was a hacking incident in the past the developers proved they'll "do the right thing" putting ethical concerns about rigid notions of "code is law".

I'm not in a position to invest more but I've not powered down in a long while. People who say get out of crypto usually don't tell you a better place to put it. What stock is giving out 10% dividend with less risk than Steem? If they can find it I'll gladly invest in that.
