I had heard similar sentiments from my mentor @gandhibaba, who explained the situation to me several times, and with different details each time. Thanks to him, I've been posting a bit more than I normally would.
Like you, we are very optimistic about the amazing potential for growth inherent in both Steemit and Steem. Not to mention SMTS.
