The Tyranny of Exceptionalism
Most of us a pretty average at most things there are to do. Even if we are exceptional at one things, chances are you’re average or below average at most other things. That’s just life. Although, throughout media it is the extremes that get publicity. Having the internet, Google, Facebook, youtube and 500 plus channels on the TV our attention can only be limited from the constant bombardment of information. The media sell the extremes because that is what gets eyeballs.
This has conditioned us to believe that exceptionalism is the new normal. And because we’re all quite average most of the time, this makes us feel very insecure and somehow not good enough. If you accept this for yourself, then you basically accept the fact that a majority of everyone else isn’t good enough and this is a dangerous mindset.
After removing this constant pressure to be something amazing, the stress and anxiety of always feeling inadequate will dissipate. You will have a growing appreciation for life’s basic experiences and simple pleasures. Friendships, helping others, reading a book, laughing. These things sound ordinary. But maybe they're ordinary for a reason, because they are what actually matters. Not this 'Mass-media driven exceptionalism'.

When it comes to people then definitely comparison can relate to the confidence levels and most of the comparison happens in schools when humans are in budding phase and this can create an deep home in their heart and mind and inturn they create their own world of comparisons and i think that the essence of comparison plays huge role in

Yes, comparison is so potent especially with social media. We need to remind ourselves to why we started something ans stick to that instead of comparing. Enough of the rat race!

It is very difficult to compare ourselves with ourselves, then if we can compare and correct our mistakes, it brings great success to our lives and our media should not be as attracted to us, at the end of the day, everything is not true.resteem done

I guess in general, comparison is not really a thief of joy.
There is also a good side in comparing things or people in a positive way.
Comparison would help us weigh and decide which is the most appropriate or maybe the most prioritized things to do.
On this aspect, we will be joyful on doing the right decision based on comparison.
There is some truth to that, comparison can be used to help us make decisions.

I try to compare myself to who I am today from who I was yesterday and not give to much thought to how successful others are.

I think that the media sometimes help to cover things and another clarification that I think every man should occupy his mind and use it to distinguish between truth and depression
