Yep, as long as steemit remains close-sourced how can it be trusted. They say they operate on the blockchain and there is no way to prove that, for all we know it runs on a centralized server. Funny how they named it "Steemit" like maybe it's a big joke (Steam = Vapor = Vaporware??) . I don't trust this and neither should anyone, but I'm giving it a try anyway just for the fuck of it

Hi, I upvoted you.
Maybe you are right.
Explain me please, is no way to check the supose blockchain?
Thanks a lot.
Steemit would have to open-source their code, making it available for any programmer to inspect the code, but also copy it and redistribute it. The whole idea of bitcoin/blockchain is to provide transparency and to provide it freely and openly for anyone to inspect, use, copy, modify, improve, etc. So because Steemit is not open-source, we have no idea if they really are using the blockchain, they're responsible for proving it but in general it's almost impossible to prove unless they release the code, which means they don't get to privatize Steemit and make profits from it. Which is fine, but it's just not as transcendental as Bitcoin or any open-source software
If you use the CLI Wallet and run your own node you can make posts directly to the blockchain without using Steemit. You can also go to steemd.com as a separate portal, though it's less suited for casual users and expects you to use the CLI for posting and voting. @xeroc has some tools (https://steemit.com/piston/@xeroc/piston-web-first-open-source-steem-gui---searching-for-alpha-testers) for direct interaction with the chain bypassing Steemit also.
I don't understand very well what you are meaning.
What you are saying is that steemit is open source?
Thank you for your information.
Steemit is a frontend and currently not open source (will change soon)
The database (where the posts are) is a blockchain and that blockchain is driven by Steem, which is open source
Thanks @xeroc . Is it official that the Steemit site will be made open source, or do you have any more details on that?
