Hey Steemians..
Preface
Crypto Portfolio has become our oxygen these days. Gone are the days when we used to wake up and check our missed calls and messages immediately. Now the first thing we do, is check our portfolio to see where we are going. The beauty of cryptocurrency is that it never sleeps. The trading goes on 24/7/365 around the world.
Steem Portfolio
I believe it is safe to say that most steemians like to keep their Steem and SBDs in their Steemit wallet unless they want to trade it for other cryptos on exchanges. While many of us have some amount of SP, Steem and SBD, the best way to get an estimate about how much our account is worth in fiat is to check the Estimated Account Value in steemit wallet.
What if I Told You That Your Account is Worth More Than That?
You wouldn't believe. Right? But here is the truth. Yes.. your account value is way more than what is being shown on your "Estimated Account Value" option in Steemit Wallet (at least right now it is).
How Is That Possible?
Before I jump into "How" part, let me explain the two types of cryptos you are dealing with on steemit and how are they being shown on your steemit wallet.
1. Steem
Both Steem Power and Steem come under the umbrella of Steem. There is no difference between these two when it comes to their "value in USD". So for all purposes, I will term both of them simply as Steem. Now, you own certain amount of steem in your account. So how does the account calculates your estimated value in US dollars?
By taking a 7 day average of steem value in crypto market.
Now imagine steem being traded in crypto market @ 1$ seven days ago, @ 1$ six days ago, @ 2$ five days ago, @ 2$ four days ago, @ 3$ three days ago, @ 3.5$ two days ago, @ 3$ 1 day ago and currently being traded at 4$.
So by taking the average of all these values:-
1+1+2+2+3+3.5+3+4 / 7
= 19.5 / 7
= 2.78 $
So if your account has 100 Steem, your account's estimated value in terms of steem will be calculated as 100 * 2.78 $ = 278 US Dollars
But that not true. Is it? because if steem is currently being traded at, lets say, 4$, and you decide to sell 100 steems, you will get somewhere around 400 $ for that.
Please note that I took these steem values for the past 7 days as an example and for simplicity and by no means are true values of Steem for the past 7 days.
Now coming towards SBDs...
2. SBDs
In addition to having Steem, you also have SBDs in your account. Now there is a big biggg twist in this. The SBDs in Steem blockchain are always supposed to have 1$ value (Doesn't matter if they are being traded @ 100 $ in crypto market).
So if you have 10 SBDs in your account, then your estimated worth in terms of SBDs will be simply 10 * 1 = 10 US Dollars
But again, thats not true. Since we all know that SBDs have been flying way above 1$ in crypto market for sometime now. So if they are currently being traded @ 7$, so your actual worth in terms of SBDs would be 10*7 = 70 US Dollars.
Coming towards Estimated Account Value in Steemit Wallet
Your overall estimated account value on your steemit is calculated by:-
{(Total Steem + SP) * 7 day average value of Steem} + (SBDs * 1$) = Estimated Account value
If I keep the values intact as per above mentioned example i.e. 100 Steem holdings, 10 SBDs holding along with values of Steem and SBDs, then your Estimated account value as per formulae is:-
100 * 2.78$ + 10 * 1 = 278 + 10 = 279 US Dollars
But if steem is being currently traded at, lets say, 4$ and SBD at 7$ then your actual account worth will be :-
100 * 4 + 10 * 7 = 400 + 70 = 470 US Dollars
GREAT.. ISN'T IT?
Conclusion
I have written his guide so that my dear steemians can know the actual worth of their accounts. Of course, it can go other way round too. For instance if Steem price starts to fall down, then your estimated worth in terms of Steem will be shown more than what it actually would be (because of 7 day average).
But since things are looking upward as far as Steem and SBD prices are concerned, hence currently, your Estimated Account Values are worth heck of a lot more than what is being shown in your wallets right now.
I hope my post will bring smiles on your faces ;)

Great article. thanks for sharing sir.
Thank you very much
Thanks for sharing... I was always wondering what's the meaning of the Estimated value in the wallet section... You have explained it pretty nicely.. A newbie like me will feed from this post.. I really appreciate it...
Following you for more.... Have a nice day...
Cheers.!!
Thanks mate. M glad that i could help.. best wishes..
Thanks brother.... Best wishes too...
Why do people buy SBD at more than 1 USD when the issuing Steem blockchain only values it at 1 USD?
This irrational demand for SBD is destroying the utility of the pegged cryptocurrency which is to give holders of SBD some stability and some tether to fiat currencies.
Thats true.. but you already gave the answer to your own question. Why do people buy SBD at more than 1 USD? Because it is stable and tether to fiat currency. They know it is not just a random sh*t coin which is trading at 4$ today and will tank to 0.4$ tomorrow.. thats why people buy SBDs.. and the huge demand of SBD has led to increase in prices..
I understand traders have lost some faith in Tether (USDT) and have instead opted for SBD but why then hasn't the same happened to other pegged cryptocurrencies such as bitUSD (BITUSD)?
They should remove the 7 day average and calculate the true value instantly for not confusing the people.
True.. but there is a reason for it.. the system is designed this way to defend steemit users from pump and dump schemes..
for instance if you received 10 dollars on one of your posts (keeping in view a certain price of steem) and tomorrow if steem tanks in crypto market, your 10 dollar post will immediately fall to 2 dollars.. and then lets say on next day, steem price goes up again but your post has already paid out at 2 dollars, you are at a big big loss.. so the system takes 7 days average value to keep the economy stable..
I am new to steemit. I currently have 3 steem dollars in my wallet. What you are saying is if SBD is at $6. The. Those 3 sbd are worth $18 US dollars if I cash out?
yes sir thats exactly what i am saying. But your estimated account value always takes 1 sbd = 1 dollar since in steem blockchain, sbd is pegged to 1 USD.
But if you cash out now, like take it to an exchange, you will get 18 dollars for your 3 SBDs (considering SBD is trading at 6 dollars, which right now is actually trading at 6.85$)
You just made my day. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. What exchange do you recommend? Thank you for your time.
There are only 3 exchanges on which SBDs can be traded. The exchange with highest market cap of SBD is Bittrex (i use this one), on second number comes Poloniex (but it has some security flaws and few people lost their funds.. third one is HitBTC, but they are not accepting SBDs right now ..
So come to think of it, you really have one option and that is bittrex.
U can also sell your SBDs in internal market of steemit and can get Steem for it.
There is another way. You can use blocktrades.us to exchange your SBDs to other cryptos (limited options available) and those exchnaged crypto funds can directly come to your offline wallet or even at exchanges.
Let me know if you still have trouble understanding something in this process..
Best wishes :)
I think I am understanding it now. I really appreciate all your help.
I see. That is why I always wondered why the total account value never matches the current STEEM value. By the way, from where did you get this information? An added reference to that would have been extremely useful, as I and I'm sure many other people too, would also like to see all those rules used by steemit.
Some basic rules are taken from steem papers and FAQs like 7 days average value and SBD being pegged to 1 USD.. however, i calculated rest of the stuff myself..
Thanks for sharing estimated account value in such a simple way. i like it:) Stay blessed
Thank you...
Thank you sir! I had to do a bit of digging to find this but it cleared up a lot of concerns i’ve recently had about the estimated value.
you are most welcome...

Thank you so much..
I just learnt something very important.
Which part of the post was new learning for you??
The part about Steem and Steem Power, coupled with the correction you gave @juliealexander about posting links on other people's post.
thank you.. i hope it will make your steemit journey more fruitful ..
It will definitely make it more fruitful. I am just about a month old and I have learnt a lot from willing teachers like you. Thanks for the vote @jbn.
Your post is really helpful.
I always give upvotes to people who comment on my posts. I dont care if their comments are for or against my post (as long as their intention is to make contribution). You will see that i have not given upvotes to some people. When you read their comments, you will know why.. i never upvote spam comments.. do visit my posts and make a contribution by commenting on it in future :)
And thank you very much.. i believe that learning steemit is an evolutionary process, so i post contributions / guides to help people in whatever capacity i can.

I just learnt another lesson. Rewarding people for their contributions. I will go through your blog later so that I can pack enough gems of knowledge from you.
I am on a journey now.
