Other than being aware of alternatives from reading things, I haven't a clue about the back end of all of this blockchain technology, so unfortunately I can't say much about it. What I can express is that the current portal (steemit.com) is clunky and unfriendly. Although many have written fine articles on how to navigate this clunky interface, it is ultimately still not intuitive and relies on a multitude of outside applications. If someone is able to combine all those wonderful applications into one intuitive interface, we would have a winner.
