Focusing upon the Red Fish and Minnows should be done with all the earnestness we can muster
While I am still classified under the terms of steemit as being a minnow, I have the mentality of a dolphin right now. I know some day I will officially be a dolphin but in my mindset I have to view things at a higher level- this helps motivate me.
In real life, we are considered middle class in my household so being forgotten sometimes does come to light for me. I thank you for bringing this topic to the forefront.
You might be a minnow with your own SP but you are a Dolphin in terms of the influence you wield.
You account has over 10K of SP....that means you are operating and contributing to this blockchain as a Dolphin.

I see the 10k SP as the hidden fund. I know it's there, but I focus, as you said, on my own SP. Kind of like a mind game I play with myself. Helps me get to the next level.
