I recently stopped using Steemit because of their privacy policy, specifically about IP collection and giving information to law enforcement.
I know that busy isn't going to be an exception; governments and law enforcement can and will access data from busy.org as well if they want to, and the information they will collect is going to be very similar to what Steemit is going to submit to them. So I know very well that Steemit is just being forward and honest about the inevitable.
It's not really about practicality. My decision to get out of Steemit is based on principles.
Steem isn't a good blogging platform. It doesn't let you delete/modify your own text after the payout, and payout collection period lasts just 7 days. Steem is a nightmare for privacy, and very restrictive with payment. So why I got hooked with Steemit on the first place? It's also based on principles. Principles regarding blockchains. Why I started investing in cryptocurrencies in the first place.
I am not using Steem because it's a good media platform. Steem isn't that great in terms of usability. It's not even that informative. Or profitable, for that matter, at least for me. So why Steem? Because it's a blockchain.
Why do we use blockchain? Decentralization. Creating an immutable history of trust, where nobody trusts anybody. Steemit just flat out announced that they don't give a shit about all of it. And honestly, such 'trustless trust' was the best selling point of Steemit (and it being the main way to access contents stored in Steem blockchain.)
Sometimes, what you say is more important than what you do. Steemit publicly denounced a core value. Therefore I quit using Steemit from now on and will try busy.org for the time being. It's got a better user interface as well.
I strongly agree that collecting IP address is a terrible idea.
