people who do not self-vote will gain less steem power than those who do.

Markets make it impossible to help others and yourself

This is true if culture allows people to self-upvote. If the majority of Steemians would stop upvoting self-voted posts, you may earn less SP by self-upvoting.

Should I wait to UV my own post or do it automatically? 100% UV?

right away at 100%, people earn curation rewards for votes after theirs. That means you will not get your full vote if you don't

I think this is perhaps the straw needed to break the camels back.....what if we all just upvote everything at 100%, or whoever is on board with that, if you ain't in the circle jerk or daisy chain you will get to actually have to post and promote and work REALLY effing hard to get anything all the while (as my blog shows) dodging attacks by assholes
maybe the tide will turn , maybe not who knows.....I'm in

I vote way tooo many votes to make them 100%,...

fabulous

I think I am starting catch a drift from you,...

it is a very complicated thing, like steem which is sort of like verbal Mortal Kombat but with money.
I'm going to start delegating millions to those who will run this platform strictly for their own selfishness It will be magical, only people smiling by bowls of food with floating orchids in them and guys doing 9 one liners in a row for hundreds of dollars (that got derailed, oh noes)
...gear up for the "HOT BOT" where only if you are hot and of a certain demographic and in a first world country you can succeed! Otherwise you will be sent off to Reddit and Facebook to mingle with the gross commoners, ewwwww

Maybe if everyone was more greedy and less whiny this place might turn out to be something.

Truncate the Whining by 1/3 and Up the Greed by 10 fold and everybody wins!
Gotta go drink my posh cocktail made by the poor people and just pray that none falls onto my brand new Ferrari's passenger seat....the fruit used in the drink was harvested by a rare indigenous tribe and is gluten free, non GMO and fair trade I guess
TRUNCATE

That's a good point.. greed would drive the price of STEEM up..

Self-voting should be encouraged. Do you see any other benefits of holding Steem Power? Who is going to buy Steem and power it up just so they can be generous and reward others and not themselves? Nobody in crypto!

I disagree with that, it should be based on contribution. People tend to overestimate their contribution and will thus over-self vote themselves. But the spamming behavior of most people getting an @freedom delegation should be frowned upon.

I think everyone should get more critical and use the downvote about 10% of the time. (this is the ratio of up/down votes on Reddit. (with much less direct financial incentives)

A solution that is being looked at is to have a separate downvoting power of smaller size (1/10) that is independent from upvoting.

Very well said.

What about those that are contributing without success

@ewuoso that’s my thought exactly. Even though I just started my account this week, and people say it takes time, I feel like inked I say I’m 17 or write about a death in my family for a sympathy post I’m not going far. What’s interesting to me is seeing people their first day hit over 100. I still haven’t figured that one out.

yah man my eight cent upvote is getting right up there on the trending :)

Self-vote or play swaps with a buddy. Let us know when you have some more SP to delegate :D

Well I do UV my posts but I like to wait until day 5 or 6 so I'm not fucking anyone on curation rewards.. that's why I've powered up what I can.. I just thought it was frowned upon by the general community

many of us were the same till we realized we ALL were getting fucked, no lube
fuck back.....power in numbers not on one freaking arm of this Kracken from the bowels of Hell, :P

I agree with this 1 million percent. Back when Steemit first started, There was more benefit to Steem power. And If I wasn't allowed to at least upvote my own posts it would make me not want to hold any of my power.
