Recently did the same. Joined steem last year, but I didn't really get it and left my account abandoned for a while. Bumped into @drpuffnstuff online recently and started talking about Steemit. Renewed my interest and I decided to finally wrap my head around how Steemit works. Have bought some Steem and powered up as well to give it a try. Best of luck.
