I've seen the future and it's STEEMY.
As a mere content creator, I know little of "smart contracts" and "governance". I do however from time to time get some insights from the more influential Steemians. Recently, spending time chatting to some Steem developers on Discord, I've noticed a renewed optimism in the air. The potential of STEEM (and blockchain in general) is frequently discussed, and some of the more engaging devs have been dropping hints of things to come.
Steem Tools is an exhaustive list of STEEM based projects, and this list is set to grow as time goes on. One of the most exciting new projects I've seen is ZAPPL. Still under development but blessed with very open and friendly devs, who are making lightning fast progress. Think Steemit meets Twitter ... on steroids. Built in STEEM wallet, encrypted private chat, monetization, cell phone apps, photo uploading and more. If you haven't checked it out yet, click here and check it out.
If ZAPPL has it's sights set on Twitter, Steepshot must surely have Instagram in the crosshairs, while Steemvids looks set to be the crypto worlds answer to YouTube.

Zappl is exciting and I hope they can roll out quickly. Having a mobile app will be another giant leap forward for Steem and blockchain social media.

I hope so. A mobile app for STEEM is needed. The Zaapl UI looks good, Twitter clone. That's smart though because people are use to the Twitter UI so the migration will be easy and hopefully BIG.
Imagine some of the more bigger users will be able to make money from their phones. On the train, in bed, on the toilet.
This looks promising, if Facebook, Twitter are not planning to release their currency, soon Steemit has VOTEUP
After some of the hints I've gotten over the last few days, I've stopped powering down. If you sniff around, there are some pretty significant Steem devs who aren't powering down. That says a lot.
If it all comes off that would be great fingers crossed

Hi Chris. I think this is a problem in the whole space of cryptocurrency. We have a lot of apps made by devs, for devs. Things are certainly getting more user friendly, but there is still a tendency to look down somewhat on the less technical of us. Keep in mind though, we are all still early adopters.
