RE: STEEM DOLLAR Peg Debate : Stakeholder Analysis

in #steem7 years ago

My thoughts are that the USD peg is a double-edged sword. Steem seems to be taking its lead from the SDB price, and rises and falls towards SBD in order to find party. By pegging SBD to the USD you have a gravitational towards 1USD.

The reason why curators a "losing" is that the rewards payout still treats SBD as being pegged to 1USD, so authors are getting lots of SBD while the systems tries to supply enough SBD to bring the price down to 1USD.

If SBD got its price from the internal market price, then we would see a true 50/50 reward structure, and curators wouldn't feel that they are losing out. As Steem and SBD both go up, so do our author and curation rewards at the correct 75/25 structure.

Sort:

I'm not sure I understand what you are suggesting? We should remove SBD from the external exchanges and only use the Internal Market? I'm not sure that solves anything.

No not at all. I'm saying that curators feel they are losing out because post rewards are still worked out using the 1USD = 1SBD, and so authors get more than the 75% rewards.

If the SBD price were taken from the internal market (for example 1SBD=1.12Steem( we would get back to a true 75/25 split on rewards.

The problem is that would reduce the supply of SBD and probably push the price even higher.

Ok, I think I get what you're saying.

I tend to sway the other way, we should increase the rewards for Curators (to include SBD) and increase the supply of SBD.

For sure. I was discussing that on another post. What if we could choose 100% SBD rewards? That would pump up SBD supply big time.

So you're talking split curation the same way post rewards are split. That would also work to even things out between authors and curators.

Yes, that is one suggested solution for Curators if people don't want to do anything about the peg a 50/50 Curator reward evens it up.

I understand why some rewards are paid in STEEM POWER because it ensures an amount is reinvested into the long term value of the platform. It makes a lot of sense, we just need to keep in mind that all the Stakeholders need to share in the platforms success rather than letting it get out of balance.
