I completely agree with @riverhead.

in #steem7 years ago

You should all visit steemit.chat and read the message from @riverhead.  Choose your witnesses wisely, many of those with top 20 positions currently haven't done shit to contribute and just suck up rewards rather than providing a great service like @riverhead did.

Current message on Steemit.chat:

Where is steemit.chat?

If you are reading this then @riverhead, and by extension steemit.chat, has been fired.

What?

The Steem blockchain is run by paid witnesses. As many know witness positions are highly coveted as pay at current prices is around $200,000 - $500,000+ per year versus around $50k - $90k for the 21st position and dropping sharply after that. There is a HUGE difference between the top 20 and backup witnesses. As @klye mentioned the other day, "These are the rockstars of witnesses".

One should be able to look at each name in the top twenty and understand what value they bring to the ecosystem versus those outside of it.

Witness List

Most in the top twenty bring a lot of value to the system other than just signing blocks and running a price feed. My (@riverhead) contribution was running this chat service. That has worked out well for about a year or so now but as time passes folks in the top 20 get complacent, and large stakeholders lose interest in keeping track of who does what for the ecosystem.

In my humble opinion this chat service provided a lot of value to the community and worthy of a witness postion. Those with the voting power to shape the witness list disagreed which brings you to this page instead of whatever community you’ve built over the last year or so on steemit.chat.

Don't Panic!

I have found a willing and able team, lead by @followbtcnews, to take it over. That should happen by the end of the week but it's entirely up to him. He'll have the full data set so things will likely just pick up where they left off but on better hardware if that's the direction he wants to go.

In the meantime we can all take the next couple of days to reflect on what it means to vote for witnesses that bring value to the ecosystem.

Have a look at your top twenty witnesses, who votes for them, and try to figure out why. For example @jesta is a strong witness and you can see who supports him here.

I wish @followbtcnews all the best and I hope you show him the same kindness and support you’ve given me while providing this service to the community.

See you space cowboy...

I honestly feel a large portion of those votes are from people that either 1. Don't really use steemit anymore 2) voted and then just completly forgot about it.

The voting is really tucked away in the system and honestly I feel this part of steemit needs to be better done.

  1. By having bios that the witnesses can update so you can see who you are voting for and what they have done recently.

  2. Require voting every month or every few months otherwise it gets wiped clean.
    OR
A weighted system where if you have not visited the page and submitted your votes again it loses weight compared to someone who visited this month and clicked submit again or changed votes.

I diligently update and use my 2,700 MV voting power for Witness Voting and proud of it!

Why don't you just make one post per day? Is it necessary to be doing so many? COuld you please explain for the benefit of those who are trying to understand. Plus, why are you putting wallet addresses at the end of your posts when you are already making so much?

ROI - Nuff said

Why do you not respond to a simple question? Your actions have shown to be so greedy, why take so much when you've already made so much?

can i have a witness vote pls?

ehi, you forgot to self-upvote your comment...

Put a big button at the top, built into the page with the person and the vote. Once a week and done. Not voting here or having skeletons voting from the grave isn't acceptable fucking behavior!

Requiring a renewal of vote at least every year would be good. I believe they kind of have bios that they can update currently.

A "renew" on subscription would be great.

Or, your witness vote just degrates over time: VESTS /(seconds, minutes, hours, days since last vote for this witness)

I really think most people don't even know about it, if they care. We could do with hints or something to lead people to the voting page as well as the faq and other items in the menu.

in simple words you want us to give one of our witness vote to @riverhead ?

Yeah sure why not.. even though I don't use that chat and I find it a scam because many fake people uses names of famous steemian as their chat name and duped lots of silly minnows.. well I don't blame the chat cuz the ones getting duped are just idiots.

hello @skreza i am getting problem to steemit.chat when i sign up they said we send you a mail shortly but i did not receive any mail.
when i tried to log in they said this mail is not registered :(
i am on @cheetah ban list and @cheetah telling me to chat at steemit.chat to get off ban list.
i am in trouble and depressed because @cheetah downvote my every post :( :(
please help me or suggest right way what should i do? because i think you know steemit better than me.
thanks in advance.

and what am I suppose to do about it? cheetah only blacklist losers who copy paste a lot.. did you copy paste other people's creation and posted them on Steemit claiming it's your contents? but anyway if you are having trouble with chats you contact @riverhead not me.. if u bug me for no reason then maybe I will also blacklist you 😁😛

Completely agree with steemians doing some research on witnesses and figuring out who is well deserving of those much coveted top 20 positions. I've been running a witness series of interviews for the past few months, any other witnesses you recommend having a chat with? How about yourself, can't remember which account you're running for witness but would love to get your opinions and outlooks for my witness series

It's @nextgencrypto - that'd be an interview I'm sure many would tune in to!

Cheers, would love to make it happen

You get NGC on an interview and you will piss a lot of people off... but they will tune in and upvote, they will just wish they could be the ones getting him to talk

I'm not really worried about pissing people off, I'm just worried about spreading useful information to others, they can form their own opinions. The more information out there about our witnesses the better, even if it ruffles a few feathers alongside the way

It's @millhouze for sure. Word is he's the best witness- like he witnesses the witnesses or something. He's that good. For real.

We will be making the transition over to our servers ASAP. @gtg has also volunteered to help with the transition.

Thanks for the mention man. <3

If this is about the platform and the good of the community, we should have a vote periodically where the userbase chooses their witnesses and all prior witness votes are removed.

That will keep people on their toes.

The revolving door of users here don’t really even know whom half these witnesses are.

Edit: just read the comment that mirrored this opinion. Well let’s take to the streets fuckers.

Post about it until people are tired of reading it.

For the sake of fun and argument. How would one know what @riverhead did?

Yes, I remember his name, mostly from when he flagged beanz for moving her channel to discord.

How would I know how much time, money and knowledge it takes to run steemit chat?

Maybe if the witnesses would like everyone to understand their contribution they should post an update once in a while.

The temper tantrum was cute and par for the scene.

rocketchatw.jpg

I know you have done a lot but what projects are you in charge of or a part of @berniesanders, i ask because i am yet to vote for a witness i'm thinking @arcange and @followbtcnews...

Would it possible to rig the voting system with multiple accounts?@berniesanders

I have been on steemit over 6 months, I did know know you can vote for witnesses and I don't know how to.

Maybe you should have a simple FAQ's tab to help us everyday normal users out, and one of the FAQ explaining what voting is for and have a list to choose from.

It's difficult to learn how to use this platform and at first it is quite confusing, I can understand why some people don't stay so long.

My witnesses :

  • Jesta
  • blocktrades
  • ausbitbank
  • netuoso
  • curie
  • pharesim
  • riverhead

I support these people :)

Why isn't @nextgencrypto on that list?

Like they didn't even read the post. shaking my damn head. Can I just abbreviate that, smdh... Would you understand that If i did it?

I've had a few positive experiences with some of the top Witnesses. They've engaged in discussion and acknowledged comments, even if disagreements were present.

Others...eh, not as much of a positive experience. I've observed that some seem to post incessantly, rewarding themselves on top of their daily producer rewards for maintaining the blockchain. When is enough, enough?

Even worse, I had a Witness downvote me recently on the erroneous assertion that I cited "false facts" in a comment I made to a post. When I defended myself with objective and verifiable citations regarding what I wrote, there was no response, and the downvote remains.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all delegate a portion of our Steem Power holdings and maintain the blockchain via our stakes, similar to how other delegated proof of stake systems work? I would imagine such a system would be more equitable.

Alas, such a system doesn't exist here. I have not yet voted for a Witness but it seems the time has come to do so, as it is apparent that the future success of the blockchain is heavily swayed by those in this position of influence.

Answering to what? That i should spend my time, trying to explain my thoughts to somebody, who clearly doesn't want to know any better and has his mind up?

And I downvoted your comment, because I didn't aggree with your theory about MarketCap showing absolute Value, in the least.

If you are not willing to accept that MarketCap isn't a true representation of value - then don't bother trying to find reasons why it was unfair for me, to downvote your comment.

Maybe downvoting isn't the right thing to do solely because it hides the discussion on Steemit and prevents other people from joining. Regardless of how anyone feels about Eos or marketcap, censoring someone else for having a different opinion than you probably isn't the best move.

It wasn't about hiding for me, but more about showing my opinion. Also, it is called flagging, but actually it is a downvoting - the opposite of an upvote, which is nothing more than a disagreement.

And as long as this doesn't remove extreme parts of rewards, I don't see any problems with it.

The fact you cite the "weiss report" as counter-evidence is very telling of your lack of ability to form a reasonable set of answers to his assertions. Go have a look at what other garbage-tier dumpster-fire companies in the corporate world they give A and B ratings to. And you know that downvoting something pushes it down a thread when the user sorts by "trending" (the default on steemit, surprise surprise) because that's just another word for "money value of votes" and removes its immediate visibility, stop making up sorry excuses for why you're scared to let "FUD" as you would call it stand on its own merit in a fucking dmania thread. It's a meme thread and you're scared that people will see a well-reasoned argument? What a fucking joke. Weak shit like this is exactly why no one with any critical thinking sense at all would ever voluntarily join this website if the financial incentive to partake in the trickle of Tether-inflated coins being produced was removed.

"Oh and - downvoted for sharing of false facts."

That was your stated reason for downvoting my comment in the cited thread.

I write about the markets and market cap is incontestably a representation of value to both traders and investors. It's not the only metric by which value is assessed, but it is among the top. And that's not a false fact. The popular site "Coinmarketcap" implies this by its very name.

You're a Witness. I've had numerous discussions with Wtinesses in which disagreements were expressed and varying opinions were shared. Not once was I downvoted by any of them for expressing a different point of view.

I am a top 70s witness who doesn't usually agree with young mr wolf to be honest, but in this case, he is correct, sorry. Just because some didn't down vote you, you got lucky or whatever, he is free to do so.

The Steem Blue Paper describes the blockchain as a protocol that "enables people to earn the currency by using their brain (what can be called “Proof-of-Brain”)."

It's one thing if downvotes represented an expression of different points of view without negating the visibility of a user's "proof of brain." Instead, they are synonymous with a flag that can be employed by those with greater SP influence to blot out varying opinions, even when those disparate viewpoints are expressed in a clear and thoughtful manner and do not fit the description of content that is commonly cited for flags when one clicks on the flag button.

I also wish @followbtcnews all the best and i hope his success. thanks for information

Voted. Hope he'll get a spot in the top 20.

Bitcoin news, where ya at? I've got a witness vote for ya.That is- if you play your cards right

Yes i also completely agree with you .Nice post dear. i appreciate this post.

Its very bad. I read and better check for the steemit. I agree that it is reminder dear. thanks for share.

How can I get a hold of you on discord

Steemit.Chat is back up & running!!!!

yes you are right I hope you make success

Good looking out for the community, im gonna check it out

that was bad! i better check @riverhead for the sake of steemit.

thank you for the reminders sir @berniesanders

@berniesanders, I think you would get better results wanking. You sure aren't getting anywhere fast with your tactics. How old are you anyway? 13! You must be areal shithead in real life.

Thank you for the information
but I can not list, I may ask your suggestion to register my steemit chat

Why can’t it be run on discord?

For me personally the witnesses that has been supporting my community and close
Xeldal
Pfunk
curie
Aggroed
ausbitbank
surpassinggoogle.. I haven't had a chance to see some tho few re still on this list... Seems there are some witnesses that are really really popular tho

Why isn't @nextgencrypto on that list?

This mother fucked right here, didn't even read the post. Too many damn people commenting and not reading. The number is too damn high!

thanks for sharing, will do my research on @riverhead & cast my vote for him if he is actively developing improvements for Steem

Your article very good. Nice to read abaut that. Thank you for sharing

I currently don't vote for any witnesses but I'll henceforth make my research so I can commence voting for those witness that will add value to this community rather than work in their selfish interest. Thanks for this @berniesanders

I am also agree with @riverhead

Imagine @cheetah showing up here and doing its routine.

I have been meaning to go have a look at my votes and change some around. Thanks for the info.

What is Riverhead doing? Turning off his witness?

very agree with you friend should contribute positively and then they do not

I see your benefit for Steemit. In the list of my witnesses there is still plenty of room. I voted for you. I have not yet found a way to be useful for Steemit except to give my voice to the witness. If you help me find my destination in Steemit I will be very grateful to you.

This whole thing is a popularity contest. Votes never expire and a majority of the voters are apathetic to the whole thing. Blockchain governance can replace governments, but they can't replace stupid. Apathy is the best attack vector against DPoS blockchains.

hmm, should I advertise my witness here?

wow good informative post.thanks for shairing nice post.

I also wish @followbtcnews all the best and i hope his success. thanks for information

there is not enough info about each witness that help us choose wisely, I know that I trust you, do you have a list of candidates? or at least some that you have not mentioned?

You don't know what you don't know, right?

It's not his fault, but I had no idea who was behind it. Because of that, again my fault not his, I had not voted for his witness. I am a heavy user of steemit.chat and highly promote it too from my new promising user reply information to admin'ing a few channels there. I should have done better research to know who was behind the project and supported them more.

I cannot be the only one who was using it without voting for his witness too. There are thousands like me who simply didn't know. Now they do. We can easily fix this mistake. The first thing I do each morning is open steemit.chat. This morning the second thing I did was vote for @riverhead's witness. Thousands of other users, whether they are on steemit.chat or not, should also be doing the same.

Heck, it is the main help channel, and @steamcleaners and many other initiatives were using it for coordination. Such services do not come for free. There's no such thing as free as we all know. People have to put time and money into these projects. They have to put part of their life into them, and they should be aptly rewarded for their successes. Steemit.chat is a vital service and definitely well worth a high reward too!

Thanks to @riverhead once again, and I apologize for missing your vote.

there are many accounts exits just for the sake of voting to certain people, and the rest like me , striving for getting votes

very nice post.

Completely agree to this.

Cowboy Beebop is so great!

I wonder what you think about my latest post:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@mindhawk/privacy-workshop-7-down-the-steemit-inc-rabbithole

Please comment if you'd like thx.

Steemit provides no clear direction as to how steemit.com works. I think they ask too much of the average user to go around chasing these seemingly unfindable rules. It's critical that someone publishes a good guideline on how steemit works, which covers all the intricacies, in a easy to explain manner.
