Well, you should ask these people! STEEM is the fastest and cheapest crypto with the most Tx at the moment - besides that, it's the only blockchain that can be used for real life purposes, and not only sending funny money from A to B. I heard of people though, who own STEEM and don't even know that there is Steemit!

The only thing I can think of, that is missing, is some kind of marketing - Steemit Inc has none at the moment.

In order for whatever service - be it a product, a site, whatever it is - to grow, it's the idiots' money you want to get.
Idiots are always the majority, so shutting them out of a product or service will do nothing but ensure that said product or service will forever remain niche.

Steemit is already a niche. "We" are an elite network of the 5% content creators of all internet users. "We" are content circle jerkers.
I'm still not convinced, that this will be anything more than that in the future. Maybe it's enough, that Steemit is a blogging platform?
