Project: Steem Flag Rewards Program

This is just a project that I am working on for the Steem community which I would like to document and would love to see feedback.

As many of you know, there has been problems and a controversy as of late regarding reward pool rape. I don't intend to get into particulars as to what actually went down but I believe there does indeed appear to be a problem with exploitation and deceptive marketing that is garnering users inordinate rewards for their work. One of the functions of flags is to return these disagreed upon rewards back into the reward pool using the voting power of the one downvoting so that other hard working Steem users may receive. It is a wonderful idea in theory but, unfortunately, it is not enough incentivized in practice.

We know that @steemcleaners works hard against the more overt scams such as plagiarism but I don't believe there is a mechanism to support the more subjective disagreement concerning rewards and bringing these instances to the forefront of the community for greater scrutiny. We are not policing our own. Well, not enough at least.

They say that crime doesn't pay but I've seen it here with my own eyes whereby users who had accumulated their rewards for spam posts for instance and, in turn, get a little slap on the wrist after which they are able to walk away with profit after spamming the blockchain. It's kind of the same idea with the issue concerning wall street whales manipulating markets and making a killing. Maybe they'll get a few fines but they come out in the black.

Life isn't fair. It's the nature of the beast but we don't have to be OK with it. On the contrary, there is MUCH we can do and that exactly what I am advocating with this concept. I am making a quick high overview of what I would like to accomplish:

  1. Have an account created to support the steem flag rewards program.

  2. Have that account query the blockchain for the most significant flags on posts (likely posts with the highest payout ie Trending)

  3. Create respective posts for these downvotes taking note of the ones downvoting.

  4. Have the community review said posts and upvote if they agree that the flag was indeed merited.

  5. Reward the flaggers in proportion to their negative rshares of their flag with the post payout. This will be calculated at payout of the post in question to ensure it hasn't changed.

Good Flag Support Force.jpg

This will have the effect of incentivizing creating good flags and ultimately result in better quality on the blockchain. Please, let me know your thoughts concerning this concept.

Update: I've started work on the script and appears effective in identifying downvoted posts. Manual screening of data will, of course, be performed as is the responsible thing to do. Screenshot below of test output. More to follow.

This is a very good idea. I am willing to team up with you to tackle this problem. I don't have much, but if you need a SP delegation for your bot account to have some power, I am willing to give that to you.

Thank you for caring about the community. We appreciate you for that!

Hey @sreepyeldarb, I really appreciate the support. This idea is very new and I haven't fully considered how the account would curate while remaining objective (not taking sides on the wars going on for instance).

So, one issue I am considering is that we are currently only able to 50/50 author rewards. I would prefer 100% SBD so the good flagger rewards will be greater. It may not be bad thing though for the account to gain influence via SP but I have reservations about self-voting so not sure how it may be gainfully employed. Maybe just upvoting the flaggers last post as an added reward for their service. Or I could power down and liquidate to send them Steem instead. Just thinking of ideas currently.

I created this link which should make it easy. This will delegate 2 SP which I believe is the minimum. I'm running into issues with the bandwidth again so I will be delegating to hopefully get things going again.

Here is the link. Feel free to adjust the vests to what you are willing to delegate.

Alright, I will delegate some power to you soon. I am working on gaining more SP for my account. Once I do that, I will see what I can do for you. Thanks for the link.

Thank you! We received more than enough from a very generous witness but appreciate the willingness to help. All systems go! :)

On second thought, I did not consider that bandwidth limitations may be an issue. image

-4.02% bandwidth. That is the first time I've I have ever seen that! Wow. Lol

Any help via delegation would be appreciated. First post payout should get it over the hump so to speak

All,

Thanks to a generous donation. The account creation has been funded and subsequently created. Encourage those interested in supporting to follow this account. Thank you!

This post should be blown up with comments with people that support something being done whether it is what you are working on or something similar. It is for the greater good but far too often doing the right thing will get you bullied. No matter what happens always stand up for what is true and good and right and one day there will be a great reward for you. Best wishes moving forward but it appears to me that people just do not want to talk about the elephants in the room or whales.

I'm happy to report that we may have one to help fund the initial account creation. They just wanted more details which I have provided. Yeah, I think this is going to be pretty cool. Heck, think it will be fun even if it doesn't get a whole lot of support.

Worse come to worse, I leverage my own account but I'm keen enough to be aware that the flags may fly. I'd prefer just letting it run and not necessarily take sides on the war but, at the same time, providing a mechanism for flags to be rewarded to those that find spam. That's a service to the community and thus should be rewarded.

I am cognizant enough to understand that, without the proper precautions, it could be "weaponized". This is why posts will be screened for the common flag criteria. It should pertain to value and will not be used for any type of war if you know what I mean. Perhaps, forming a committee consisting of all Steem Power demographics would be wise to make the screening process democratic in nature. We will have minnow, whales, dolphins etc.

I have written a couple articles on the flag issue as well as suggested site improvements. I will include them at the bottom of this post.

I do agree that positive reinforcement for flagging is not a bad thing. That said and correct me if I am wrong, your bot will

  1. Scan for posts with the highest $$$ downvote (e.g. downvoted by pissykitten, caitlynsanders, transformersguy etc.)

  2. Create a post about the downvote to discuss the validity of the downvote

  3. If determined to be valid, take that posts earnings and give the lions share back to the original whale that down voted it. As his proportionate down vote would entitle him or her to a higher percentage of post payout (whale life is good).

Perhaps take that posts earning and use half to curate a few under 50 authors or return the lions share to those under 55 and $100,000.

It's odd as I just don't want to see a situation where those with the most $$$ are making more for doing what they should of done in the first place. Take the @ha ejin thing and the behavior on both sides. It went from simple flagging over rewards to 100 percent downvotes by those with +600,000 SP of dissenting comments by users of rep 40 and lower or with less than 250 SP; essentially downvote overkill.

I'm not sure if I would of wanted either side to be rewarded for how they behaved or continue to behave. This is a tough scenario or perhaps I am not fully understanding the concept.

I hear what you're saying. To keep it simple, I was thinking of calculating the rewards in proportion to the vote negative rshares compared to the total so yes, technically, a whale using a full weight flag is going to get more than a minnow with the same.

I don't necessarily see a problem with stake being a benefit for curation but I am not a fan of it being used on the author side. I have grown sick of the "Well I invested money in the platform so I get to put my comment/post at the top" mentality.

But yeah, with our only able to set 50/50 rewards, not sure what the function of SP would have in light of this projects intent. I could have it upvote the flaggers last post which I could see as being a nice benefit.

I'm up to work on the project and see if there is any merit to it..

Nice effort. But try writing a conclusion or summary so that topic can be understood in less time. Thanks.

Thanks, bro. Yeah this was about 50% rant and 50% what I would like to actually accomplish. The next post from the @steemflagrewards account will be more succinct.

Sorry for late reply. I was not accustomed with steemit. Learning phase. Will love to hear more from you. Love. Peace.

I do have some concerns. can you explain what the data im the screenshot represents? some of those account duch as @acidyo and @agroed are definitely not abusers. jusy not sure what im looking at.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. That pic is only demo of the technical capability of the script compile the data of trending posts that have been downvoted. When the project is ready, the data will be used to detect abuse but that raw unfiltered data itself will not be published.

However, metadata on the posts deemed abuse or meeting the other criteria of flagging will be published. This is down the road as this project is in its infancy. The scripting started today as a matter of fact.

That data, in turn, will be leveraged to identify potential instances of abuse but these will be subject to manual review and possible approval via committee of Steem representatives from minnows to whales before they are even submitted as a post.

I think that would serve as a good protection mechanism from the potential for this tool to be used irresponsibly. Hope that makes sense.

ok. so we can filter the probable jealousy flags and such. good deal. keep us posted.

Precisely. Will do, pal!
