Making money in the comments section!

in #steem8 years ago

So, for the past year or so I've really only made blog posts. I've mostly skipped comments. They haven't seen all that lucrative to me. Though I should say a lot of post authors will maniacally go through their own comments section. It's a vanity thing. It's good for PR to help your page grow. It might get you some extra upvotes.

Anyway, I have a pretty simple strategy that's netted me $14.64 in rewards over the past week, has taken very little time, and might have even gotten me a few new followers.

I read through the article quickly. I look for an appropriate phrase to search for on Giphy and I link the gif in the comments. I find this fun. Often times I'm looking to make a joke that I think is funny that's tangential to the point the author is making.

Half of the money I've made came from one post. The other half has been spread about while interacting with people online. But that's what steemit is like. A million misses and one big hit.

Sort:

I always upvote comments on my posts. I think they are a great motivator even if it's just 'great post' or 'I liked the article' I enjoy hearing the feedback.

Thanks for the advice @aggroed
DA MAN!

I agree 100% The higher Steem price has made this a valid strategy, and I have advised my staff member who I just helped open an account to try this until he gains the confidence to post. It is good advice for newcomers, as long as they don't become spammy...ahem...cryptocash....

Preach! :)

I use a combination of comments and some posts, still waiting for that "one big hit". :)

Very soon, very soon it will come

I hope it comes sooner.

YOU ARE THE ALL MIGHTY!

ooop gotta reward that comment :)

Very cool. Nice to see people trying new things!

old as time itself it seems :D papa can I ask of you to check my post, you are one of the people I haven't gotten to try my "style" I would love any input with my "creative" writing

Great post!
I will follow you!
Steem on!

Not only that, but it is a great way to get the bite sized portions of what others think, I've been able to find a lot of great people just in the comment section. Thanks for giving it some attention and love!

I started out just doing some comments, hopefully I can get my intro done today and start to do some blogs. Figured out how to add pics today so I'm off and running hopefully. LOL

I'm not sure that money is such a good incentive... I tend not to upvote posts which earned a lot of money, even though some are good. But when something really strikes me I upvote regardless.

Keep up the honesty and down to earth approach also have you tried popcorn with nutela, I'm sure anything tastes great with nutela anyways ::D (oh and don't eat that since popcorns aren't that great nowadays) plus you might run out of nutela :D

Haha great reply. Well I think the problem with this approach is that almost everybody would be honest given enough money.

yeeeaaah all politicians and traders, marketers are completely honest, they just want what's best for you and them :) everybody wins. Still i think honest and real people should be supported, an insightful and real comment/communication is worth far more than a beautiful lie. Sadly people buy those far more :) and tend to stray away from whatever is damaging to their idea of themselves or their world view.

Hey, i think that i can do this 😏 😏 😏

Boom! $0.02 for you!

Oh thanks holy gosh

You are totally correct. We need to focus our energy outward into the community and not inward. Inwards grows selfishness and greed. Give back to the community and the community will give back to you ❤️

I upvote and comment so much that my upvotes don't carry any weight and my comments don't bring in rewards :) so tell me how interested the community is in rewarding, when they have difficulty getting through anything over 2 pages or written by somebody with less than 5000 SP :) so community my ass, I see people pushing agendas :D

Great idea!

Where's your meme or gif homey!?!

Hmmmm....

This is me typing in the comments section this past week trying to be first with a good meme.

btw I have 1000+ comments, imagine if they were gifs :D

Love it! LOL indeed!

Thats awesome lol

Great idea!

Great idea! Are you using the embed code? I'm not sure how to add a gif to a reply.

neg. I just copy the url from giphy

Thanks! I'm a little embarrassed. I was making this way to hard! #overthinkingit

easiest $0.02 you're ever gonna make.

Aggroed you make a good point. They say that "an image paints a thousand words" and as we all know, no-one in today's online world is very much prepared to read a thousand words, so regardless of any steem earning potential, a succinct and well chosen image that actually adds value to the conversation is a darned good idea IMO

:) images are nice :D

I actually love leaving comments and interacting with others and your tip sounds very good so I will try it right now.

If you had tried it right meow there would be a gif in this comment!!!!

I tried to but it did not work ;(

there you go!

Have another vote - what you said in your original reply is spot on IMO

Thanks for the upvote @west-of-ireland and @aggroed :D

That's ok. It's pretty simple though. Go to giphy.com, type in something in the search bar, right click on the image and hit copy image link, go into a comment and paste the link. Might take a second to pop up, but it'll be there.

Done wujuuuuu :D

Cap in hand down the bottom of the $.02 comments page I go 😋

The point isn't to beg. The point is to be clever and earn a reward.

Of course, it was in jest and I almost added please no upvote for this one!

For minnows and, now, red fish the comments are key imo. Allows you to engage with the bigger players that you share common interests with, you upvote them with love, they reward you with more than your blogs are getting. And of course, what goes around comes around.
