Hoffenheim vs. SC Freiburg

In this match, two clubs who lost the first round of the league will face each other. But even though both teams have zero points, the results can’t be compared. While Hoffenheim lost 1:3 to the league favorites of Bayern Munich in the last minutes of the dramatic game, Freiburg lost at home against Frankfurt, a team obviously way lower ranked then the glorious Bayern. Even though Freiburg didn’t play bad, they didn’t have much chance against Frankfurt’s effectiveness. If they want to accumulate points themselves, they will need to start transforming their attractive football style into goals – Nobody has ever won a league for playing beautiful. Hoffenheim, where many people blame the referee for the loss against Bayern will be on fire and out for revenge. Even though Freiburg had nothing to do with Hoffenheim’s defeat, they could very easily become the victim and suffer from the second loss in the second game, as they go into the upcoming game as a clear underdog in my opinion.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. VFL Wolfsburg

While the team of Leverkusen lost the top-game against Borussia Moenchengladbach 0:2 despite being the better team for big parts of the game, Wolfsburg won a crazy game against Schalke with 2:1. Both teams had some heights and lows but seem like they are definitely ready and in form for the new seaspn of the Bundesliga. Their upcoming duell will be leading the direction on which the following weeks develop. Should Wolfsburg celebrate the second win against a top-class team, fear of declassification will be already far away, which will remove a lot of psychological pressure and probably open the way for more great results. On the other hand, Leverkusen would gain a lot of pressure if they lose again. Even though they will not be be too fearful of having to leave the league, two losses in the beginning already mean a lot of points lost in the fight for the top places qualifying for next year’s international tournaments. I think both teams have chances in this game, probably resulting in a draw – a result that both teams could probably live with.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Werder Bremen

Both teams of this matchup have made at least one point in the first round of the new Bundesliga season, Frankfurt even accumulated three points. A win in the upcoming match would therefore put both teams far away from the lower table positions and could the season start could definitely be called succesfull. While Bremen will have all forces available in the first round available as well, Frankfurts coach will have to switch a little bit. It’s still not clear if goalgetter Rebic will be able to play, he obviously is a strong force for Frankfurt. I expect an even game with the slightly better outcome for Frankfurt. The news that Trapp is going to return from PSG will probably be a little moral boost making the difference needed.

Augsburg vs. Borussia Moenchengladbach

Another game of two teams, who made points in the first round – in this matchup it is even two first-round winners facing each other. While Augsburg had a close 2:1 win in Dusseldorf, the Borussia celebratet a solid 2:0 against top-club Leverkusen. Since both teams will have all the players from the first round available, it should be a meetup of two good teams. Borussia is a little bit stronger, Augsburg has the advantage of being the home team. Therefore, I expect a draw – a result both teams could probably live very well with.

FC Nuremberg vs. Mainz

Mainz, who won the first round with a close 1:0 against Stuttgart will have to travel to Nuremberg, whose team lost 0:1 in the capital Germany. Nuremberg should definitely use this game in their own stadium to get their first points, having 0 points after two games is definitely not how you want to start into the league with. Mainz will have to prove that they also can win in away games. I see a slight advantage for Nuremberg and therefore think they will at least make their first point, probably even win even three.

VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayern Munich

Whenever two clubs from the south of Germany face each other and the big FC Bayern is involved, it is obviously pretty clear who goes into the match as a favorite. Stuttgart lost their first-round game in Mainz, which doesn’t make a difference for the upcoming game – even if they would have won by a few goals, they would have been the huge underdog now. Bayern won their first game with a dramatic 3:1 against Hoffenheim, and will, not only in my opinion, win their next game in Stuttgart on Saturday evening.

RB Leipzig vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf

After a dramatic 1:4 loss against Dortmund, Leipzig will need to recover against Dusseldorf if they don’t want to lose the touch to the top field of the Bundesliga table too soon. Dusseldorf, who lost 1:2 against Augsburg at home, could very easily become the victim of a belated revenge by Leipzig, who will definitely need to deliver a win to not cause troubles in the club. After advancing to the group stage of the Europa League (where they will face their sister-club Salzburg in the group stage), the moral boost for Leipzig will be enough to make them win clearly against Dusseldorf in my opinion.

Schalke 04 vs. Hertha Berlin

In the last game of the second round, the club from Germany’s capital Berlin will have to travel to the traditional club Schalke 04, who lost their first-round game 1:2 in Wolfsburg. Berlin was able to celebrate a close 1:0 win against Nuremberg – however the game in Schalke will definitely be different, especially with the fan masses of Schalke against Hertha. Both coaches will have to deal with some changes necessary in comparison to theirs squad used in the first round, but this shouldn’t cause too big of a problem on both sides. In the end I think Schalke will be able to score their first points of the season and tie Berlin.

Hoffenheim vs. SC Freiburg

In diesem Spiel stehen sich zwei Vereine gegenüber, die die erste Runde der Liga verloren haben. Aber auch wenn beide Teams Stand jetzt null Punkte haben, sind die Erstrundenspiele nicht vergleichbar. Während Hoffenheim in den letzten Minuten eines dramatischen Spiels mit 1:3 gegen die Favoriten aus München unterlag, verlor Freiburg zu Hause gegen Frankfurt - eine Mannschaft, die offensichtlich weit weniger Qualität als Bayern hat. Und auch wenn Freiburg nicht schlecht spielte, hatten sie gegen Frankfurt keine Chance. Um zu punkten müssen die Freiburger beginnen, den attraktiven Spielstil in Tore umzuwandeln, eine Schönheitswertung gibt es keine in der Liga. Bei Hoffenheim, wo viele den Schiedsrichter für die Niederlage gegen Bayern verantwortlich machen, wird höchstmotiviert sein, sich für die letzte Runde zu rächen. Auch wenn Freiburg nichts mit der Niederlage Hoffenheims zu tun hat, könnte es diesen Gelüsten sehr leicht zum Opfer fallen und im zweiten Spiel die zweite Niederlage einfahren.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. VFL Wolfsburg

Während Leverkusen das Topspiel gegen Mönchengladbach verlor, obwohl man über weite Strecken die bessere Mannschaft war, konnte sich Wolfsburg in einem verrückten Spiel knapp mit 2:1 gegen Schalke durchsetzen. Beide Mannschaften sind definitiv startklar für die neue Saison – das kommende Spiel wird entscheiden, in welche Richtung sich die Saisonen entwickeln werden. Sollte Wolfsburg das nächste Top-Team schlagen, ist die Abstiegszone schon sehr weit weg. Sollte Leverkusen jedoch erneut verlieren, würde der Druck größer werden und man könnte sicherlich von einem klaren Fehlstart reden, da die internationalen Plätze dann schon weit wegrücken würden. Ich sehe die Partie ziemlich ausgeglichen und glaube an ein unentschiedenes Ergebnis, mit dem beide Mannschaften leben könnten.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Werder Bremen

Beide Teams dieser kommenden Begegnung haben in der ersten Runde bereits Punkte sammeln können, Frankfurt sogar drei Stück. Mit einem Sieg würden sich beide Teams also schon deutlich von den hinteren Platzierungen absetzen und Momentum sammeln. Werder wird vermutlich mit der gleichen Aufstellung starten können wie in Runde eins, Frankfurt’s Trainer muss ein bisschen umstellen. Es ist außerdem nicht klar ob Goalgetter Rebic zur Verfügung stehen wird – falls er spielen kann, macht er Frankfurt natürlich stärker. Vielleicht helfen aber auch die Neuigkeiten von der Trapp-Rückkehr aus Paris, die Frankfurt den nötigen mentalen Push für einen Zweitrundensieg geben.

Augsburg vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach

In dieser Partie treffen sogar zwei Erstrundengewinner aufeinander – während sich Augsburg knapp mit einem 2:1 gegen Düsseldorf durchsetzen konnte, besiegten die Borussen Top-Team Leverkusen klar mit 2:0. Beide Mannschaften werden vermutlich gleich wie in der ersten Runde auflaufen können, was eigentlich für ein gutes Spiel sprechen sollte. Die Borussia ist wohl etwas stärker einzuschätzen, Augsburg hat dafür den Heimvorteil. Ich erwarte mir ein Unentschieden, mit dem beiden Mannschaften leben werden können.

FC Nürnberg vs. Mainz

Mainz, welches die erste Runde mit einem knappen 1:0 gegen Stuttgart gewinnen konnte, muss in dieser Runde nach Nürnberg, wessen Klub in der deutschen Hauptstadt mit 0:1 gegen die Hertha verlor. Dieses Heimspiel sollte Nürnberg definitiv nutzen um die ersten Punkte zu sammeln, mit null Punkten nach zwei Runden würde der Vereinssegen sicherlich schief hängen. Mainz auf der anderen Seite hat weniger Druck, will aber sicherlich auch beweisen, dass sie auswärts gewinnen können. Ich sehe minimale Vorteile für die Heimmannschaft, weswegen ich auf einen knappen Sieg dieser tippe.

VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayern München

Immer wenn sich zwei Vereine aus dem Süden treffen und eine Mannschaft der große FC Bayern ist, ist zumindest die Favoritenrolle klar verteilt. Stuttgart hat in der ersten Runde bei Mainz verloren, was für dieses Spiel freilich wenig Unterschied macht – selbst mit einem Kantersieg bei Mainz wäre man nach wie vor Außenseiter gegen die Bayern. Bayern mühte sich in zwar einer dramatischen Partie zu einem 3:1 gegen Hoffenheim, wird diese Runde gegen Stuttgart aber dennoch klar gewinnen. Die Frage ist eigentlich nicht ob, sondern wie hoch der Sieg der Münchner ausfallen wird.

RB Leipzig vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf

Nach einer dramatischen 1:4 Niederlage gegen Dortmund wird sich Leipzig gegen Düsseldorf wieder aufraffen müssen, um nicht schon früh den Anschluss an die Topplätze zu verlieren. Düsseldorf, welches 1:2 gegen Augsburg verlor, könnte leicht zum Opfer dieses Wiedergutmachungsversuchs der Leipziger werden, die obendrein von der geschafften Qualifikation für die Europa League Gruppenphase (wo sie auf Schwesterklub RB Salzburg treffen werden) profitieren, und eine klare Niederlage kassieren.

Schalke 04 vs Hertha Berlin

Zum Abschluss der zweiten Runde empfängt Schalke die Hertha aus der Bundeshauptstadt. Während Schalke dramatisch mit 1:2 gegen Wolfsburg verlor, durfte sich der Hauptstadtklub über einen knappen 1:0 Sieg gegen Nürnberg freuen. Nun werden die Berliner jedoch statt dem eigenen Heimpublikum die Fanmassen auf Schalke entgegengesetzt bekommen, was sicherlich kein Vorteil für die Hertha ist. Beide Trainer müssen Änderungen an der Startaufstellung vornehmen, was so früh in der Saison jedoch noch kein allzu großes Problem sein sollte. Ich denke, dass Schalke zuhause den ersten Punkt einfahren und sich von der Hertha mit einem Unentschieden trennen wird.
