❓Answering Common Questions: Should I use 100% Steem Power or 50%/50% Payouts for my Post❓

in #steem-help7 years ago

One actually pays more than the other right now! Can you guess which one?

Q: What do these payout options mean?

Near the bottom right corner of where you type up your posts in Steemit's editor, you'll see a drop down box labeled Rewards letting you decide how to where to put what you earn. The three options are:

  • Default (50% / 50%)
This is the option that's set for you at the beginning. When selected, the earnings made from that post (after taking out the cut for curators, typically 20-25%) have half given at Steem Power (using the 3.5 day average price of Steem) and half as Steem Dollars (which can be spent, traded, cashed out or powered up immediately if desired.

  • Powerup 100%
The powerup option will put all earnings from that post into you wallet as Steem Power.

  • Decline Payout
This option is just like it sounds. You will not earn ANY payout on this post.

Q: Which payout option should I pick? You told me one pays more?!?!

Short Answer: Right now the Default (50% / 50%) option actually gets you more money.

Why you ask? It's because when you are paid out in Steem Dollars, it's being given at the rate of 1 SD = $1. But lately, Steem Dollars are selling for more, right now being at $1.50. It had been around $2 for a while up to a day or two ago.

When you choose the 100% Steem Power, it just uses the current price of Steem, not letting you get the extra value out of the current Steem Dollar!

Choose the 50/50 split for reward payouts while the Steem Dollar is worth more than $1 US dollar!

Feel free to ask me anything. I'm here to Help!

thank you, that clarified it for me, because i was asking me the same question. steemit is a little confusing at the start.

Happy to help out! :D
There's definitely a lot that can be learned on here...definitely don't let it overwhelm you!

As a newcomer, thank you for this! I appreciate the clarity.

I'm more than happy to help out. I've written some other guides too if useful...but feel free to ask me anything that comes to mind. :)

@sykochica
I've been trying to figure out which is best so I really appreciate your posting this! This is what I like about Steemit.... We have a platform where we can exchange helpful information and ideas, along with a lot of other very cool stuff! :)

Very happy to be able to help out! I'd gotten this (good) question a lot and figured it was worth spelling out, especially with the Steem Dollar being really high lately. Once it's back about a dollar it wont matter, and if it goes low (under a dollar) than the 100% SP option would actually be worth more.

Oh yea...this community blows others away! :D

@sykochica
You actually explained it quite well and it doesn't seem so complicated any more so thanks again! :)

I'm still learning about crypt, so now would be great to trade my sbd to btc if I wanted to or to power up because of how the steem dollar is pegged?

I have to careful to not necessarily give trading advice, just cause of the can of worms it can entail.

What I can say, is that there's are mechanisms (such as setting the SD interest in your wallet to 0%) that try to keep the SD within 10% of $1 USD (between $0.90 - $1.10). So right now it is pretty high compared to that.

Drop me a line in steemit.chat and we can discuss this a bit more. I'm the same name in there. :)

ok coming..

Great post tjanks

Thank you!

I very happy it was helpful! I've written some other guides recently if useful for other questions you might have. Or always feel free to ask whatever, I'm here to help.

And welcome to Steemit!! :D

Thanks for this post, I had read that at the beginig it helps to power up 100% because it gives more value to your account, but I'm not quite sure how that works. Could you explain it, please? Also I followed you and will be reading your other posts.

No problemo! :)

The short answer is that when our posts payout, any portion in Steem Dollars are given as if 1 Steem Dollar = $1 US dollar. However, for a while now, these are really worth and sold on the market for a bit over $2 US right now. So, on the half of the author reward you would get in Steem Dollars (with 50/50 rewards set), you'd literally be getting paid twice as much. (i.e. the current $2 US price for SBD compared to the $1 US it's paid out as.)

You can still exchange all your Steem Dollars for Steem, which you can then power up. So in the end, with 50/50 rewards, you could still choose to power it all up...you'd just have more to power up.

I hope I didn't make it more confusing.

@sykochica Thank You for the clarification !!

I'm glad it's helpful! It's better to just ramp up on stuff here in small, manageable chunks. Otherwise it's easy to just get overwhelmed. I'm still figuring some things out. Lol

I'm not sure if it's your 'cup of tea,' but I thought you might enjoy the Weekly Steemit Meme Challenge put on by @fibra59. A nice way to have some fun and get a little visibility at the same time.

Sounds awesome! I will check it out, thank you so much again! Always love to learn and meet cool people here.

Another great post and helpful info!

Thank you!
Feel free to let me know if there's a topic you'd like me to go into.

Ok. I've got questions as the other person said, that I don't know I have yet! But I would like to know, here in the US, there have been only 3 places I found to buy crypto- currency at. Coinbase which has the worst reviews, coinmama which also has unfavorable but better reviews and then Gemini which has both good and bad. What do you suggest? Any of the 3 or something else. I have seen many people post about just where to buy in the US, but don't seem to be a lot of good choices.

Since I've only used coinbase myself up to this point (even having no problems myself), yet hearing a lot of the issues, I'd like to talk with some others to get you a good answer on this one. I should ask, are you looking for something to handle larger amounts? Or more just a few hundred dollars here and there?

How important is anonymity/privacy for you?

Few hundred to just to get in the game. Wanted at least 1 maybe 2 if the etherium couple of weeks ago. Now I'm looking just to throw some chips in to get in the game! But I don't want to join some service that's going to charge me a lot, and also so much personal information just made me uncomfortable. So yes, privacy is always something I always consider into the fact. Thanks again for any information on your experience with coinbase.

I'll ask some friends what they're experiences and thoughts are of the other wallets.

But with coinbase..I've not had any issues. Usually I was moving between $150-$300ish from there to my bank account. While it's been a while, it usually cost me about $2-3 for those amounts, which wasn't bad for me...but I really wasn't moving much overall. I just wanted something at the time that worked well and consistent...which it was.

Main reason it's been a while is putting money onto the exchanges instead of my bank..I've not actually moved any money in myself.

I would suspect @craig-grant could make some recommendations on this...better than me I'm sure. Lol

Thanks! Just clicked on follow him and reading his post.

Thanks #sykochica that answered a few of my questions!

Awesome! I love being helpful.
Did you have some other questions? I'm happy to help. :)

Feel free to ask questions anytime. :)

Good post! A lot of people probably didn't realize that.

Thank you! Yea, was definitely an easy one for people to miss.

very informative. thank you

Hi @skyochica, another excellent post! However still a little confused, if we collect steem and then bought SP then there would be no difference to setting the post to 100%SP? Would it only be more valuable if it remains in SBD? However, since we need to build up SP setting to 100%SP is the way to go?

Doing the 50/50 split and using those SBD to buy the Steem will actually get you more than if you'd just taken the 100% SP option. This only works out when the SD is worth more than $1, because the 50/50 split pays you as if it was at $1. Last night the SBD dropped to $1.25, so it's becoming less of a benefit. However, with it at that price, you'd actually be getting an extra 25% 'buying power' with the SBD you'd get over having it through 100% SP.

This post has been ranked within the top 10 most undervalued posts in the first half of May 27. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $31.37 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

thank you for this ... it came just at the right time i needed it

Absolutely! I'm happy to help out.
With the Steem Dollar only being $1.35ish today...it doesn't quite have the same impact..but still useful. :)

yes i agree with you... thanks for sharing

Simple and clear. Maybe you should add that with that extra over 1$ you could power up if powering up is all you are interested in. In other words 50/50 then powering up 100% gets you more than powering up 100% immediately.

Another great post,
thanks

Thanks a lot for carifying my doubts :)

No problem! :D
Happy to help out.

Feel free to ask questions anytime, especially if there's not a good guide/faq for it. :)

So as long as the price of steam is well over $1 then its better to do the 50/50 split?

I've been using this app for a couple of days now and i feel as though some of my posts are not getting the exposure they derserve. Are there any tips you could suggest since you seem like a wonderful person who is here to help the newbies.

Terimakasih, informasi yang sangat bermanfaat

Thank you a lot for this nice Q&A post!

Did I understand it correctly that if the post is set on 100%, the Curators get nothing? And you get 100 % Steem POWER? Sry for asking this question again, but usually I speak german. Therefore, sometimes I am uncertain whether I have understood the English correctly. :D

Thanks for your really helpful posts. It can get confusing as to which option to choose, especially being so new to the community.

Ohh...I'm more than happy to be helpful! There definitely is quite a learning curve here, so def don't let yourself get overwhelmed.

If it's useful, this is a google doc with an organized list of all my guides, and I update about once a week with my new things: http://bit.ly/2mAyPxL
