Since I joined after the new rules were in place, I don't know any other voting system. My first day here, I hadn't gotten read about voting yet, so figuring it was like other platforms, in my extremely zealous pursuit of everything new and shiny I up voted myself silly, which meant going down to 15%. As you know, that affected me deadly for the next couple of days. I wish I had read this then, but young minnows will make mistakes and live and learn, right?

Oh definitely! It's important to just have fun...which often means upvoting so many of the great things on here!
It gets a LOT easier to manage when you unlock the vote slider bar at about 500 Steem Power. This lets you choose how much of a vote you give out..meaning you can instead of 10, 100% votes give:
20 - 50% votes
40 - 25% votes or
1000 - 1% votes :)
I'm still getting used to the new balance myself however..so definitely don't let it add stress. :)
You would think something like that would be setup in reverse, since a new minnow is likely to explore more and find all the hidden gems that are buried deep in the hollows. To go beyond the new, hot and trending in their search for all that is new and exciting in their newly discovered land. Voting on more since they are being exposed to more. Once they have their sea legs and have a better understanding and appreciation of their new environment, then they can make more of an impact on what truly moves them.
