My first comic project - God's Blade : part 1

in #steem-cartoon6 years ago (edited)

2 days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, I got a phone call from a friend. His name is Amir. He asked me about my return to the village during the day of aid. I told him that I would be back home in the village on the third day of the holiday.

On the second day, at 9.00 am, Amir appeared in front of my house with several pieces of paper in his hand. I invited him in and served him drink. After sipping a few times the water that was served to him, he stretched out the paper he was holding on to me. Apparently, it is a comic script written by Amir. The title is God's Blade.

He really wanted me to work with him in producing a comic. At first, I tried to refuse his request gently. This is because I think my painting skills are not quite as good as to produce a comic yet. But he still insists on his stand. He still wants me to paint for the comic he wrote. For him, the drawing skills will improve if we start to make it.

Looking at his determination, I agreed to work with him and draw some character designs according to what Amir wrote. Oh, yes! for your knowledge, Amir is a hardcore Hong Kong comic fan. So, the comic he wants to make this more in the direction of Hongkong comic style..and here it is. Step by step for the 1st character that I do for God's Blade - The steel fist.

Steel Fist.

He is a famous machete in the world of heroism. However, he would only forge a machete for his acquaintance or his family. Because of that, he was deeply hated by the Emperor Tian Long who wanted him to serve him. He is not only good at making machetes but also having high martial arts technique too. The weapons he always uses are the space-stamp machetes and the sword of the earth.

As a fellow artist, I can attest to the fact that you’ll never feel ready to make a comic book... you do just have to start! Perhaps 10 or 20 issues later you’ll feel like you somewhat know what you’re doing!

Thanks for your kind word @bryan-imhoff. I agree with you. I think its time for me to making my 1st step. Wish me luck buddy :)

do it! it's super scary and exhilarating but will be the most rewarding thing in the long run :)

Yes, to that ^

I feel that applies to a lot of things. I think it was Stephen King who said he didn't feel ready when he started writing his Dark Tower series... and that looking back now, he thinks the first ones are crap next to the later ones (his opinion). BUT, had he waited to start until he was ready, he would've never started -- his words. A lot of things get refined/better over time. It's just natural. Look at most cartoons (like the Simpsons) from day 1 to how they evolved.

Thank you @eyedrip. I think my level of confidence increases now. Most famous artists start from below as well. If they can, why not us? :)

exactly! it's sweet to see their learning curve, especially when someone we admire allows themselves to make mistakes :D
