• Mr. Doggy come back here please!

The Smart Fortwo was running like hell along the road, avoiding police cars and its blond owner girl trying to catch it.

• You will never get me - barked to his trackers, who heard it as a simple "woooof".
• Mr. Doggy pleaase! Stop this crazy run! I'll give you two bowls of crunchies!
• Wooof to you and your mother, blonde!

Mr. Doggy braked suddenly turning fast at a crossroad, then speeded up toward the bridge. Fourteen police cars failed to follow him and drove off the road, crashing against other cars or inside pubs and shops. Only two cars succeeded: one police car, and the blonde one. Next time I'll get an hamster, she thought.

The dog was surprised to think how he didn't need anymore an human in order to feel the fresh wind on his face. His tongue was chiding happily out of his mouth. Little by little, he started feeling less of a dog and more of a human. "Cogito, ergo sum", he thought. A strange light blinked in his eyes.

• I will be the owner of myself - he declared. - I will be the best friend of mine, and I will always eat on the table and use the toilet... But this time, not for drinking.

He was happy.

• Mr. Doggy I love you, come to me! -, the blonde screamed. The cops were loading their rifles.
• I see you more like a friend - the dog replied, calm. The cops took aim.

They were at the end of the bridge. The cops shoot.

It was too late. The dog's Smart broke the walls of reality, reaching a mistical land, where the dogs are not dogs, and the Smarts are not Smarts.

• Signor Cane torna qui, ti prego!

La Smart Fortwo stava correndo a tutta callara lungo la strada, evitando le macchie della polizia e la sua padrona bionda che stavano cercando di prenderlo.

• Non mi prenderete mai - abbaiò ai suoi inseguitori, che sentirono solo un semplice "bau".
• Signor Cane per favore! Ferma questa corsa folle! Ti darò due ciotole di croccantini!
• Bau a te e a tua madre, bionda!

Il Signor Cane girò immprovvisamente all'incrocio, quindi accelerò verso il ponte. Quattordici macchine della polizia non riuscirono a seguirlo e andarono fuori strada, scontrandosi con altre macchine o dentro a pub e negozi. Solo due macchine riuscirono nella manovra: una della polizia, e quella della bionda. La prossima volta prendo un criceto, pensò lei.

Il cane si sorprese nel pensare a come non avesse più avuto bisogno di un umano per sentire il vento fresco sulla sua faccia. La sua lingua stava garrendo felicemente fuori dalla sua bocca. Poco a poco, cominciò a sentirsi meno cane e più umano. "Cogito, ergo sum", pensò. Una strana luce brillò nei suoi occhi.

• Sarò il padrone di me stesso - dichiarò. - Sarò il mio migliore amico, mangerò sempre sul tavolo e userò il bagno... Ma stavolta non per bere.

Era sinceramente felice.

• Signor Cane ti amo, vieni da me! -, urlò la bionda. I poliziotti stavano caricando i fucili.
• Ti vedo più come un'amica - rispose il cane, calmo. I poliziotti presero la mira.

Erano ormai alla fine del ponte. I poliziotti spararono.

Era troppo tardi. La Smart del cane infranse i muri della realtà, raggiungendo una terra mistica, dove i cani non sono cani, e le Smart non sono Smart.
