The wrestle between East and West for king of the hill continued this week.
It seems 19 forks, in the proverbial, was all the US needed to spur a little increased activity from the US.
Where Asia had passed the Americas late last week, they lost a little STEEM as bitcoin and many of the alts took a little breather on the markets.
As news spread of the great changes brought in by the upgrade to linear rewards and the positive results thereof, traffic surged in the Americas with a noticeable upswing that continues.
Outside interest also surged to all time highs, adding to the idea that these changes are very well received and creating interest even among non-steemians.
The interest was mainly from the US.
There are a couple of other interesting new entrants in the list:
Japan at number 9
Due to my bias I notice South Africa at 18 and Nigeria at 25.
Pakistan joins the party too.
When we switch to returning user we see the list shuffles quite a bit.
The US drops by 4% and South Korea goes up by 4%
Seoul and Busan are now the top two cities.
London was 3rd
New York $ L.A. have slipped to 4th and 5th respectively.
Medan (Indonesia) is next.
...and then three Australian cities... go OZ
So, all in all, steemit.com continues to surge onward and upward at a steady rate.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks as the true effects of the Hard Fork begin to be felt more broadly and consistently and becomes more widely known.
I think there are at least 2 or 3 positive feedback loops that are really just getting started. Hard Fork 19 changes the game. For those who haven't read, Hard Fork 20 looks to also be very interesting: https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/proposing-hardfork-0-20-0-velocity.
There's no doubt in my mind that Steemit will have over 1 million active users within a couple of years. Demographic is an unknown for me, but as long as there are users all across the world, it's bound to do very well.
This is a brilliant post.
Question: Where did you get these charts and stats from?
Go United States! Haha. Honestly it is nice to see the increase. It is also really nice to see the diversity of people that are visiting SteemIt and the amount of people they are be retained. It brings a lot of different views into the conversation here!
I think so! Probably more peopole know Steemit, more knew will come, it's exponential. Thanks for the informations
I guess that the US users have more expensive bills to pay so they didn't go full-time when the rewards were pretty low. This community is growing speedfast. Wonder how it will look like by the end of the year.
Are you economist @gavvet? What is the basic meet of this new Hard Fork for the people already in the system verses the growth of a new comers? Technology changes fraction of a second what about the upgrade?
More happy insiders means more word of mouth to outsiders...
And I'll bet a HUGE portion of them came from the Midwest! ;-)
The asian region up north is adapting seamlessly as to compared to the southern side of the region. I'm in Malaysia btw, and people here are really taking their time with the whole crypo world change. I just think asians generally are way too careful at everything and probably it would take a little more time for the whole of Asia to come around BUT do watch out for us! haha Nice breakdown right here. I like the way you word the updates. Keep up the handy writing. Cheers!
مرحبا اخى وصديقى كيف حالك امل ان تكون بخير
انت وجميع العائلة يوم سعيد لك اخىHello my brother @gavvet, May I hope you are well and the whole family. Happy day . It is wonderful to see some of the functions from the continent of Africa to show in the results that is great
Africa is so low on the chart maybe because i was out on vacation now I'm back and that throne is mine 😂. But seriously we need more Africans on steemit too we're the second biggest continent on the planet
Hope to see more users on Steemit but I have a question. Is Steemit geared to handle a sudden surge in new users and is the system scalable?
The last year has been all about improving scalability
Keep it up @gavvet. Follow upvote or resteem :)
click here! This post received a 1.9% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @ehiboss! For more information,
It's going viral soon~ nice info on the charts !
I'm Asian American from Korea ... I'm stuck on who to root for... I'm for both teams! 😂🇰🇷🇺🇸
There will be some growth because this platform is different, it has a blockchain system that even things out which gives everyone a level playing field for getting an opportunity to earn.
Very good position.
Thank you by reading your articles. We learn things.
Follow my profile if you have the time.😊
We need to get Antarctica involved. Really lagging behind the other continents. :)
When the growth begins, even Atlantis will participate! :)
That't why the talk of going South ;)
it's informative.
thank you for posting.
I believe that there will be growth. Since so many countries have already joined!
It's a tight race. The odds don't favor anyone. Europe seems to be falling behind, but the race has just started and with the States overtaking Asia in the last curve anything is possible! :D
Wow Australia @ #6. cmon aussie cmon cmon.
The growth is exciting, but the city numbers just show how huge the potential growth is. When there are only 4,000+ users in Chicago, you know you have a little space on the upside :)
Time for word of mouth...
wow u r earning very good amount of money it's a dream to me please help me to grow my page please resteem my only 1 post please please
10% of people in Seoul?!? That is crazy! Now it makes sense why the "KR" tag is so popular.
I think the growth curve will continue to increase at a steeper rate for a few more months before tapering off some.
That's what I am thinking, not sure it will taper off though, since marketing in earnest has not really started yet, solving scaling issues first.
It seems like it is all word of mouth right now, which isn't a bad thing! That is the best marketing sometimes. What is the plan to solve the scaling issues? Is it an architecture problem on the back end or issues with onboarding of new users?
Good, its about time we retake our place at the top ;)
yea, yea
Nice, I like thinking of this as some kind of friendly battle :-). Good to see the UK are up in 3rd! I also like to see Nigeria making headway :-D
Cg
Where do you find all this information from? Is there a website with stats or?
This specific data isn't public but there are public sites that have similar that can be google. They just have less granularity than the private google analytics data that I use to compile these trend lines etc.
Great information bro We as a steemit community will prove to be a good example for our "competitors"
Thanks for sharing the info. Upvoted!
Thank you for good information. Follow&upvoted.
US users are just flooding in now haha.
South Korea has lost their place now.
Let's keep this upwards trend going
Nigeria is certainly making it's way up ! Great job !
Flipping (back) part2 haha. Definetly much different than last update. Latino america we slacking brothers. vamos!
Fantastic to see these numbers. I am helping a lot of family members right now get started on steemit, and they are always asking what time of day should they post. This will be helpful to them and of course myself
Nice read! :- )
Wow - What a range of statistics. I am amazed to see how keenly you and others are watching how the demographics interacts with Steemit /Steem. It is but natural since Steemit and steem blockchain/ mining are interconnected unlike other social media without any link to monetization or crypto. Thanks for sharing.
I am mostly into wildlife and travel photography blogs. I would be honored if you check my latest blogs when you have time. Your comments will be very valuable to enrich my experience. Thanks.
I think we still need some time to make this thing out.
I believe that more new markets should be reached, as well...
Please excuse my lame 1% vote, I'm recharging after careless post-HF depletion, will hit full blow with max VP in 2 days onward. :)
This was a great post. Thank you for sharing. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you future work!

I wish some help we are from same place
Thanks for the stats, been looking for something like this...
I am trying to encourage more users from the Philippines that have joined this platform. I think that region could really start to surge with enough care and attention.
Hi, Gavvet. I translated it to Korean. Please check it out!
