I know what you all are thinking. Florida...the land of swamps, alligators, and Florida Man. The geniuses at Thrillist labeled us the worst state in America "based on everything."
Ok, whatever.
I realize that the bath salt craze, the face-eating zombie, and these guys below haven't helped.
But it's OK.
Pleeease just give me a chance to redeem Florida.
So...a lot of people don't know this, but the Florida legislature recently made Publix its state symbol. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy. Picking a grocery store as a state symbol. Are you stupid or something, Florida? But it's a really long story. I would link you an article about it but all those websites are down. Crazy. You'll just have to take my word for it.
If you are unfortunate enough to live in a state that doesn't have a Publix (they only have stores in seven southern states) you are seriously missing out. Let me share with you four reasons why I, and Florida's lawmakers, love Publix.
1) The stores feel like home.
If you live in a state with a Publix, you probably instantly recognize the smell. They've got the bakery on the right when you walk in and they are always cooking something! If you're a parent, you should know that kids get free cookies just for stopping by.
2) Publix brand products are better (and cheaper) than the other brands.
My personal favorite? Publix brand ice cream!
3) They help out the community by offering free medications
Publix Pharmacy gives away medication for high blood pressure, diabetes, allergies, and most antibiotics! Anyone can get free medicine at Publix.
4) Publix Subs aka the "Pub Sub"
Everyone knows to skip the Boar's Head and ask for the Publix deli meat. Load up with veggies on that fresh Publix baked bread.
There you have it.
Now you know what our lawmakers had for lunch and why Florida's state symbol is clearly the best.
Nice post. Somehow we are learning from each state.
I like the series and it is very intriguing.
Publix is very special to Florida.
Keep on steemin'
thanks!
Visited publix almost daily when we were there a couple of years ago the one we went to sure was pretty impressive and had it all

I love that you chose Publix as your thing to tote. I have to admit it is a wonderful grocery store. I used to go to places like subway all the time until they stopped making the veggie patty ones available in my area, and even then the sandwiches always left a lot to be desired. Someone told me that I should try Publix sandwiches because after having those you don't ever bother stepping foot in another sandwich shop, they were right. I mean where else can you go in a convenient location and get a sub with nice bakery buns, any cold cuts you want, or tuna or fresh veggies and such than an actual grocery store who sells the stuff? I mean you know it is fresher in most cases. Yes, florida is definitely both an interesting and weird place (having only lived hear for just over 3 1/2 years myself), but it has a lot of charm.
haha thanks!
Definitely an upgrade from Subway...yuck!
😂😂😂 very nice... have never been to a publix, i have heard of it...actually never heard anythjng bad about the place, look forward to reading more man
haha thanks man. Glad you liked the post!

It looks like an awesome store and very clean! I've never been to one but if ever in the area then I would love to stop in after seeing your post!!
It is super clean! What state are you in?
I'm in Maryland! ;)
Funny enough I actually went to Publix once when I was visiting Florida, it was an awesome grocery store! Bath Salts do give it a bad rep though lol!
haha did you get a sub?
It's a shame about the bath salts. Let's just ignore that during StateWars
Well the people at Forbes named Beaumont (I think) one of the dumbest places in America so Texas at least has Florida beat there.
Publix sounds a lot like HEB in Texas, but it doesn't have those yummy looking subs. Don't know if Florida has any HEB's, but if they do let me know how they compare to Publix.
@steemusa has a discord if you want to hop on and meet some other people from the USA that are on Steemit feel free to stop by and say hi!
I've never heard of HEB, so I'm pretty sure we don't have any. Definitely not in South Florida.
Cool. I just joined the steemusa discord and am interacting with some people on there!
Awesome. HEB is a Texas grocery store that's awesome for some of the same and different reasons above. They don't get cookies at HEB, but they get like HEB bucks they use for stuff at the store somehow (never had a kid at the time so not exactly sure), but they do a lot of giving back in the community and feel very much like a community store instead of a chain.
i love that feeling. Even if Publix wasn't cheaper (which is is) I would still go there because of the feeling you just described.
Hello from one state up! And one of the lucky ones to have Publix stores. ;) It's been years since I've had one, but they do have good subs. I think the thing I always like about going in one is that they always have friendly staff. I spent years working in retail, so customer service is one of my priorities in shopping anywhere regularly.
I know! I forgot to mention the customer service. If they charge you the wrong amount, your item is free! Even if they charged you less than what it should have been. Super friendly and helpful staff.
I do love Publix. This made me laugh thought because everyone here in Florida is obsessed with Publix! Great post :)
haha thanks! Where do you live in Pinellas? I went to school in Gulfport!
That's awesome! I'm up in Palm Harbor, soon will be moving more towards Dunedin though :)
