Startup Chronicles IV: DIY vs. Outsourcing

in #startup7 years ago

In the unfolding saga simmering in a small garage somewhere in Seattle, the two-team army has now transitioned into advancing alpha version prototypes.

When I was in a community college 11 years ago, an elective I had decided to take at the time would transform my life forever. Looking back now I wish I had paid more attention because in university it altered my career trajectory even further from the subconscious effects I had suffered.

CSC 142 "Javascript How To Program, Sixth Edition" Dietel & Dietel. There were 14 students but only 3 came back by the second week. I hated the class mainly because I wasn't interested in coding and the book is 1576 pages for a summer class but I needed it for transfer credits. To get program credits in University I had to take another programming class called MatLab. I hated that one too but I needed the course credits. Suffice to say I did not choose Computer Science as my major. The irony of it all is that I've come full circle back to needing those very same skills only this time for different types of course credit. Literally.

So now the quagmire.

Be like NIKE and Just Do It or find someone who already has and constantly lives that sh*t.

The current market, especially in Seattle, is ridiculous. Programmers are commanding some of THE highest incomes in the engineering workforce. To get someone willing to work with you, or for you- versus getting on with Amazon or the likes and make six figures within a year is a living nightmare.

"Money Talks Bullsh*t Walks"

Thats the name of the game in town. And thats why I am MAKING time to read ALL 1576 pages of this book even if it kills me. Thats the reason why I'm also expanding my networking sphere. Sooner or later something's gonna give.

"What you seek is seeking you..." RUMI

The saga continues...
