Click Bait – What is it and how to use it without ticking people off

This is kind of a touchy topic where people have extreme views on opposing sides of the argument. So let’s take a look at what click bait really is and what the fuss is all about.

Defining click bait

Let’s get to it. Click bait is any sensational or provocative language used to entice readers to either read the full article or text or click through to a desire page based on a juicy title.

I mean really who does not like juicy details or drama? Come on…

Here’s the thing. You can use titles that really entice your reader to read on or click on but if you don’t bring it they will bounce. You need to be realistic. Yes, it is great to bring interest and excitement into content but it needs to authentic and relevant.

Also using the example below if this is what you are doing STOP IT! STOP IT RIGHT NOW! Yes, I am yelling. But it’s a passionate kind of yell.

"How YOU can make $1,000,000 US in your spare time, with no pants on, while making a coffee" – Deets here

I mean really. First of all if you can’t realistically back up making that amount of money don’t even go there. It’s false and the reality is not everyone can do that so why are you putting this on the table?

How can you improve this title while still being authentic and realistic?

“How you can improve your bottom line while sitting on your butt.” – Deets here LOL I’m just kidding.

But seriously it depends on your audience and that is a topic for another article. If you want to attract your audience build their trust with the right title bring it. Bring all the value. Bring actions they can use right away to solve their problems. Don’t use cheap tricks to bring them in and disappoint them.

Let’s be real. There is so much noise out there it is nearly impossible to get a word in edgewise but there are ways to do that without losing your audience
