Stablecoins , which are by definition, an asset, aims to offer price stability characteristics. The main purpose is to be used as a unit of account as well as to have a strong store of value. Stablecoins aim to be immune to volatility and inflation. Stablecoins can be used for consumer loans and various things that simply cannot be subject to extreme volatility, as opposed to using Bitcoin, as an example, where during the amount of time the transaction will take to process the price could fluctuate greatly in either direction.
Although no team has yet to develop a universally accepted Stablecoin that does not compromise features of security or decentralization, I believe that given some more time we will be able to see other teams come out with a better Stablecoin in the future. If implemented correctly they could quickly become universally accepted as the international currency of the future. They have the potential to empower everyone to take part in an evolving crypto-economy, without compromising security and freedom.

There are doubts that Tether Limited, the company behind Tether, does not have the reserves to back up all the funds currently in circulation. Claims that it does not hold the amount of fiat needed to compensate for the Tether Token.
