How to Play the Splinterlands Summoners

Hello. Today I am writing a how-to about the summoners in the game Splinterlands. I have been trying to get to the top of my league in ranked battles and having a hard time of it.

After a while of trying new things, using the new cards, and losing miserably, I said forget this, I'm going back to my old cards and what I know, so I don't have to climb back from novice next season.

I'm glad I did because I dragged myself out of novice, and back into silver where I belong.

One of the things I have learned since I stared playing @splinterlands is that the game calculates your highest possible league by the power of your cards.

If you are not reaching the top of your highest league, you are playing the wrong cards!!!!

I have so many cards to choose from, but I only have certain cards leveled up. Clearly my new Chaos cards are not yet leveled, therefore in order for me to advance to silver, I needed to play my highest leveled cards.

But the level of the cards only go so far. You also need a leveled summoner.

When you get to silver league, your leveled cards are free to release powers they could not use in bronze or novice leagues. But they are still restrained by the level of your summoners. If your summoners are not leveled, your leveled cards will be restricted and suck.

So which summoner should you invest your hard earned DEC? This depends on what kind of fighter you are.

If you're an older gamer, think about the role you would play in other games like Splinterlands. Once you find out what kind of fighter you are, you can devote your time and effort to the team you can play, and win.

Dragon Summoners

Dragons are OP and are very expensive. If you want to level up your dragons, you will need lots of DEC, or be very fortunate with drops and prizes. The fighters who choose to level their dragons are considered rich fighters... (to me anyways.)

The dragons are so OP, they can win against other teams with very few cards. Since my dragon summoner is only level 2, she is useful until silver league, and then it's just plain luck if she wins. This is because I don't have many dragon cards, they are very high mana, and the dragon class is often excluded from the battles in ranked mode.

White Summoners

The white team is useful for anyone who has played a healer in the past. The cards are heavy with armor, and there are lots of protective buffs. The fighters who choose to level their white team are considered healing fighters.

Healing fighters will need a very strong tank or a high health melee card to take the brunt of the damage, a healer or two, and either casters or ranged fighters to dps. Since I have played primarily healing roles in past games, my mind is already focused on healing as much as I can while using the least amount of mana possible.

Since my white summoner is level 4, I can continue to use this team to advance in the silver league. The white team is also full of sneaks which I use when my other dps abilities are restricted in battle. If the ranked battle is healed-out, you may decide to use another color team.

Blue Summoners

The blue team is the dream team of the casters. If you mainly played a caster, or mage in the past, you will be mentally equipped to play the blue team. This is because you already have it in your head to do the most amount of spell damage with the least amount of mana. The fighters who choose the blue team are considered casting fighters.

Casting fighters will need a a strong, leveled tank. I like to use my turtle because it is leveled, has armor and has thorns. A healer to keep the tank alive, and as many casters as your mana cap will allow. If you have a caster with stun, or sneak all the better.

Since my blue summoner is level 5, I can use my leveled cards without the restriction of the summoner level. Since I love to play casters, this is my favored team, and the team I use the most to win. If the ranked battle has casting restrictions, you may decide to use another team.

Black Summoners

The black team are very melee heavy with very few heals. If you mainly played a tank in other fighting games, you may easily use the black team to win. This is because the tanks' job is to take damage and hit hard with close ranged attacks. The fighters who choose the black team are considered tank fighters.

Along with very melee heavy fighters, the black team have a lot of high powered ranged and caster dps. This makes the tanks' job of staying alive easier as the dps kill the enemies before the melee tank falls to their death.

The black team does not have many heals, but they do have a high powered tank that heals itself. This helps sometimes. Since I don't play the black team very well, I only use it when I have no other choice. I don't even attempt to do the quest anymore. If the ranked battle has melee restrictions, you may decide to use another team.

Green Summoners

The green team is what I consider to be the team of the ranged attack. If you mainly played a ranged fighter like a hunter in the past, you may enjoy playing the green team. Although the green team is very diverse in the selection of power, I believe the fighters who choose the green team are considered ranged fighters.

I like to play this team because the gold flower in my summoners hair, matches the gold cards I have with the green team. But seriously, this team would be the easiest to play for a hunter type fighter, since the team is well rounded and the ranged attack cards are very powerful.

I had a hard time playing the green team until I realized I could use my ranged dps to do some serious damage. Since my green summoner is level 3, my leveled cards are free to use their powers.
If the ranked battle has ranged attack restrictions, you may decide to use another team.

Red Summoners

The closest comparison I can make with the red team is that of a rogue. If you mainly played close combat dps like a rogue, you may like the red team. This is because the rogues are not afraid to fight up close. The fighters who choose the red team are considered melee fighters.

Melee fighters will need a strong or sneaky tank. The red team is limited with heals, and is my least favorite team to play. Played correctly, the red team can be very powerful. The heavy melee of the team gives many different attack plans since the team includes many reach, and sneak melee, as well as lots of blast, range dps.

Since my red summoner is level 3, I can use it in the silver league, but this is another one I won't attempt the daily quest unless forced. If you feel the need to rush in and hit other fighters with your melee, you may prefer the red team. If the ranked battle has melee restrictions, you may decide to use another team.

No matter which team you choose as your favorite, be sure to learn the cards powers before attempting to battle. Knowing the restrictions of the battle, and the powers of your cards, helps when planning your team.

Don't be afraid to play the same cards if they are winning. Use your highest leveled cards as much as you can. Remember the summoners level may be what's holding you back, so level the summoners you will use the most.

You must have a level 3 summoner to activate the powers of your leveled cards. This will get you to the silver league. If you want to play in the gold league, you will need a level 6 summoner...

No matter how high your fighting cards are leveled, the level of your summoner will decide if the cards can be used to their full potential. If you are winning, and know your cards, there is no harm in skipping the battle.

If you are losing repeatedly, take the time to watch the battles. This is an easy way to learn why you are losing, and then correct the mistakes your making.

I hope you have learned a little more about how to play Splinterlands, and which team you are naturally meant to play. There's little to no sense wasting your time playing teams you don't understand... when you can win with the teams you know how to play.

Until next time,

Happy Gaming!

Wow 😮 I really needed to see this blog,I just started playing splinterlands so any newbie advice to help in the game is golden right now which hopefully reduces the frequency of beatings I'm taking right now 🤣🤣🤣 and why I'm also reblogging to be able to reference it later 😉 thanks for sharing on PYPT

You're welcome! I try to make a post after I figure something out, or think it will help others. This helped me because now I rent out my black and red cards knowing I don't use them!

Taking notes 😉 pease keep writing because you know one person now who will be keeping an eye out for your tips and tricks posts.

I love your breakdown for this, very well done post. I'm into earth as my favourite and they got a whole bunch of crazy new cards in chaos legion as did everyone of the other splinters but earth has now turned into a magic heavy team. A bit slower which can huret them but they can do some crazy damage with magic now.

It was great to see you in PYPT have a wonderful day and catch ya next time.

Thanks! Just as I figure it out they change it! I am kind of excited for them to separate the card battles. I have too many to choose from and use mostly Alpha Beta cards.

Great to see you too! I hope to read some of your 5 minute freewrites! I have tons of them if you scroll my page. Thanks too for the pizza!
