Introduction

This week there was a big change in the rewards earned from battles in the Splinterlands game that drastically changed the way the game's economy works. The rewards in Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) that were earned by winning a battle or that could come in chests have been replaced by Splintershards (SPS), the game's governance token. In addition, a way to obtain DEC by burning SPS was implemented, at a conversion rate of 1 dollar in SPS that can be converted into 975 DEC. In this way, the game team seeks for this token to return close to the price of 1000 DEC equivalent to 1 dollar, as with Credits (Splinterlands, 2022).

With this change, the value of the DEC skyrocketed, leaving a stable quotation at 0.0009 Hive/Dec reaching a peak of 0.001556 Hive/Dec (or 1000 DEC equivalent to 0.87 dollars), as shown in figure 1:

But apparently the Market excitement has subsided and the value of the token instead of seeking breakeven around 1000 DEC to 1 dollar has regressed and is around 1000 DEC to 0.68 dollars. At first you may wonder how this regression is possible if there is that active SPS / DEC conversion, and to break this common sense I will present the reason why this is not true in this post.

Token analysis

As explained earlier there is an in-game conversion where it is possible to get 975 DEC for every SPS dollar burned. But before we think that this conversion will make the DEC reach this price in the Market, we cannot forget that the DEC is also tied to the purchase of packs from Chaos Legion, where it is possible to get 01 pack with 4000 credits, which are always 4 dollars, or using 4000 DEC, which at today's price (Hive-Engine, 2022-a) would be equivalent to 2.7328 dollars.

Analyzing the value of a pack traded on the same platform (Hive-Engine, 2022-b) we see that its value is a little lower, where with 2.1532 dollars we managed to acquire the same pack. This difference is attributed to the possibility of winning cards in the in-game Airdrop when buying from the official store, which does not occur in the out-of-game market. Anyway, what gives the value to the packs is the value of the cards in the game. As each pack has a drop probability, its average value can be calculated according to the tool available on the Peakmonsters website (Peakmonsters, 2022), and its result is shown in figure 2:

After the update that allowed multiple potions to come per chest they were no longer a problem, so the market usually pairs close to the value of when using both potions. Thus, with the value of the pack around 2.26 dollars, which can be obtained for 4000 DEC, 1000 DEC would be equivalent to 0.565 dollars, quite different from the 1 dollar that the conversion from SPS to DEC charges us.

Conclusion

Therefore, as long as there are ties to the purchase of packs and the conversion of SPS into DEC, the value of the DEC will always be above the value of a pack divided by 04, and below the ratio of 1000 DEC to 1 dollar. It will only reach the low end when the Airdrops run out, which speculate the value of packs from the official store upwards, and it will only reach the high end when the value of the packs increases, which would only occur in the case of cards value increase.

And how is the SPS? Well, if I had this token accumulated, I would start selling it, because it will be the new DEC. Despite having its importance as a governance token in the game, this function is still in an embryonic stage, so the selling force will end up surpassing the buyer, even more having to use the DEC for the rent / purchase of cards. It is likely that rent values ​​will fall over time because of this.

My bet for a short-term gain would be to buy a little Voucher, probably with the next announcements of the Rift Watchers collection these tokens will go up, as happened with the launch of Waka Spiritblade and during the pre-sale of the Validator Node License. But this is by no means certain, as is anything in the Crypto Market.

Introdução

Nesta semana houve uma grande mudança nas recompensas ganhas nas batalhas do jogo Splinterlands que mudou de forma drástica o funcionamento da economia do jogo. As recompensas em Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) que eram ganhas ao vencer uma batalha ou que poderiam vir nos baús foram substituídas pelos Splintershards (SPS), token de governança do jogo. Além disto foi implementado uma forma de obter DEC com a queima de SPS, numa taxa de conversão de 1 dólar em SPS poder ser convertido em 975 DEC. Desta forma a equipe do jogo busca que este token volte próximo à cotação de 1000 DEC equivalerem a 1 dólar, assim como ocorre com os Credits (Splinterlands, 2022).

Com esta alteração o valor do DEC chegou a disparar, saindo de uma cotação estável em 0,0009 Hive/Dec chegando a atingir um pico de 0,001556 Hive/Dec (ou 1000 DEC equivalente a 0,87 dólares), conforme mostrado na figura 1:

Mas aparentemente a empolgação do mercado diminuiu e o valor do token em vez de buscar o ponto de equilíbrio em torno de 1000 DEC para 1 dólar regrediu e está em torno de 1000 DEC para 0,68 dólares. Em um primeiro momento você pode se questionar como é possível esta regressão se há aquela conversão de SPS / DEC ativa, e para quebrar este senso comum apresentarei a razão disto não ser verdade neste post.

Análise dos tokens

Como explicado anteriormente há uma conversão no jogo onde é possível obter 975 DEC para cada dólar de SPS queimado. Mas antes de pensarmos que esta conversão fará o DEC atingir esta cotação no mercado, não podemos nos esquecer que o DEC também está amarrado na compra de packs da Chaos Legion, onde é possível obter 01 pack com 4000 crédits, que sempre são 4 dólares, ou utilizando 4000 DEC, que na cotação de hoje (Hive-Engine, 2022-a) equivaleriam a 2,7328 dólares.

Analisando o valor de um pack negociado na mesma plataforma (Hive-Engine, 2022-b) verificamos que seu valor é um pouco inferior, onde com 2,1532 dólares conseguimos adquirir o mesmo pack. Esta diferença é atribuida à possibilidade de ganhar cartas no Airdrop do jogo quando se compra na loja oficial, o que não ocorre no mercado fora do jogo. De toda forma, o que dá o valor aos packs é o valor das cartas do jogo. Como cada pack tem uma probabilidade de drop seu valor médio pode ser calculado conforme ferramenta disponibilizada no site Peakmonsters (Peakmonsters, 2022), e seu resultado é mostrado na figura 2:

Após a atualização que permitiu vir múltiplas potions por baú elas deixaram de ser um problema, logo o mercado costuma se parear próximo ao valor de quando se utiliza ambas as poções. Desta forma com o valor do pack em torno de 2,26 dólares, podendo ser obtido por 4000 DEC, 1000 DEC equivaleria a 0,565 dólares, bem diferente do 1 dólar que a conversão de SPS para DEC nos cobra.

Conclusão

Por tanto, enquanto houverem as amarrações à compra de packs e a conversão do SPS em DEC, o valor do DEC sempre vai estar acima do valor de um pack dividido por 04, e abaixo da relação de 1000 DEC para 1 dólar. Ele só vai atingir o extremo inferior quando acabarem os Airdrops, que especulam o valor dos packs da loja oficial para cima, e só vai atingir o extremo superior quando o valor dos packs aumentarem, o que só ocorreria no caso de valorização das cartas.

E como fica o SPS? Bom, se eu tivesse este token acumulado começaria a vendê-lo, pois ele será o novo DEC. Apesar de ter sua importância como token de governança no jogo esta função ainda está em estágio embrionário, logo a força vendedora vai acabar superando a compradora, ainda mais tendo que utilizar o DEC para o aluguel / compra de cartas. É provável que os valores dos aluguéis caiam com o tempo devido a isto.

A minha aposta para um ganho a curto prazo seria comprar um pouco de Voucher, provavelmente com os próximos anúncios da coleção Rift Watchers estes tokens vão dar uma subida, assim como ocorreu no lançamento do Waka Spiritblade e durante a pré venda dos Validator Node License. Mas isto não é nenhuma certeza, assim como nada no Mercado Crypto.
