Okay so I didn't actually take any time off from SPL over the holidays, but I did take a break from posting about my fun battles 😀 I might need to take more posting breaks as I had my best performance in tier two while I was aways with a 7—1 result 🎉🎉🎉 The challenge this Brawl was to live up to that impressive showing...

Still getting used to Modern

I've been taking the Modern Silver fray since the guild jumped to tier 2 and I'm still getting used to seeing non-Chaos summoners. This battle against Lorna was an interesting one. The result seems like I had everything under control, but it was my prebattle decisions that I was most proud of. I have had a bad habit of rushing through the team selection phase and instantly regretting my decisions. This battle I took my decisions to the wire and had near zero left on the clock to submit my team 😳 I started off with my bad habit of seeing a mana count and rulesets and jumping to a quick conclusion of what team to submit. Before hitting submit however I remembered that I am trying to slow down and think more slowly about the team I am submitting.

My first reaction, with Obsidian banned from the fight, was to use the melee mayhem ruleset with my heavy hitting/aromred Kelya team. After selecting Diemonshark, Isgold Vorst, Disitegrator and Xenith Monk I stopped to think and had a hunch my opponent would try and come at me with magic attacks to defeat a heavily armored team. Here's the direction I went instead and why...

🎉 🎉 5—3. Not as good as 7—1 but I'll take it! 🎉 🎉

The Calzones are consistently putting up over 100 points! True, the winners are getting over 200, but we are making strides. Plus, sixth place in tier two pays off better than second place in tier one so we are learning and earning more each Brawl. This was an interesting Brawl for me as I didn't feel great about some of my matchups, mana counts and rulesets, but I ended up performing very well. I am trying to slow down a bit more as I showed above, maybe I'm learning something and becoming a better player 🤷‍♂
