RE: SPS Governance Proposal - Hire Steem Monsters Corp. To Build Card Burning Event & Provide Riftwatchers Packs as Prizes

in #spsproposal11 months ago (edited)

I think SPL should focus on selling the Promo and keeping all the revenue for the team. After the post comments (particularly @azircon's point about team revenue being priority) and the TH yesterday,

While the burning event could or could not be good, I think its more important right now for Splinterlands Inc to get the money from the promo sale, and thus do the halving promo directly without the DAO involved. Here are factors in my decision:

1 - SPL gets 100% of the Promo sales and that is something I think is important

2 - the card burning event has some negative pushback from players for 3 reasons:

 a) cost of 100k to the DAO
 b) lottery method and no guaranteed or direct card purchase option
 c) some don't want vouchers to be included

3 - I think Splinterlands team can restructure the card burning event easily into the future when there's not a conflict with selling a promo card

4 - I believe many of the other changes with the New Player Experience are very positive and powerful, thus the card overhang problem is miniscule in comparison

5 - I think Splinterlands can make the card burning event much better with more input from players as well as the team (I personally have many thoughts to help improve it)

So while I think having a promo card is good in terms of making the card burning event fun, I also believe that smart thing to do is let the Splinterlands Team run their business first and get their own revenues, and focus on reducing an oversupply later on a restructured burning event (which will give the added benefit of making it even better and more exciting).

I've shared my thoughts with @yabapmatt and no matter how this works out I'm still very excited for the future!!! I've been here 6 years and plan on being here quite a bit longer! :)

Hello, im missing some context, no revenues to pay team salary?

Hey David, SPL has money in the bank from the sales of packs of course, so they have that for their operating expenses (including salaries). But Yabapmatt said that SPL counts on the sales of Promo cards to supplement their regular pack sales as part of their normal operating process.

So they do have money to pay salaries, my point is I would prefer that they continue selling the Promo cards to continue to fund their company as opposed to giving those cards to a burning event (at this point in time).

In other words, I think the SPL team has been very generous with the SPS DAO for a long time, so its time they put their financial needs first. We can certainly wait on the burning event, its not something that is crucial at this time imo.

I get your point and i totally agree with it

My concern with this burn event is the amount of reward cards the bot farms have managed to acquire. Would anybody else even be able to get close on the leader boards when these people start burning their reward cards? Is there any way to cut them out (I can't think of one personally)?

This hasn't really been raised as an issue so maybe I'm missing something here? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts @davemccoy as I always value your opinion on these types of things.

I don't think you can build it to get a particular group of players involved. That's what a lot of players are talking about, the bot farmers will be the primary participants of this particular burn structure. (or they will sell to the humans players that want to participate).

That's why I'm not really in a rush myself, I don't mind those reward cards they own being cheap and I see no reason to rush and spend $100k from the DAO to get rid of these cards.

Thanks for your reply, Dave. I think I might sit this one out, land has sapped most of my spare cards and Dec anyway 🙂

It sucks we have to think that way, though. Can't do x because it would benefit bots too much. No regard for whether or not it would also benefit players. I think someone just needs to hard fork the game and create a new one where one has to prove who they are and can only have verified accounts if one want to earn anything. One cannot make a system where people can earn anonymously with no limit to the number of accounts they can make and expect it NOT to be exploited the way it has been. Idk. It's just exhausting. I don't want to care about this game anymore. haha. It feels almost exactly like a relationship that needs to end.
