Untungnya Costa tidak harus menerima hukuman badan didalam jeruju besi karena menurut aturan hukum Spanyol Costa hanya perlu membayar Denda beserta bunganya saja

Vonis yang diterima Costa adalah hukuman penjara 6 bulan serta denda 543.208 euro sekitar Rp8,6 miliar, sebelumnya dalan siding dipengadilan mantan penyerang Chelsea tersebut mengaku bersalah Karena menghindari pajak dengan nilai total 17,5 milyar. Menurut undang-undang Negara Spanyol, seorang terdakwa dengan hukuman di bawah dua tahun bisa bebas dari kehidupan penjara alias hanya berstatus hukuman percobaan dan atau tahanan kota. Kasus ini menambah banyak kejadian pemain sepakbola yang melanggar aturan pajak. Sebelumnya nama besar seperti Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Luka Modric, Marcelo, Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria hingga Javier Mascherano telah pernah berurusan dengan pengadilan karena penggelapan pajak
