One Of Belgium's Most Promising Riders Is Dead

Bjorg Lambrecht, one of Belgium's most promising cyclists have died following a crash in the middle of a racing competition.

Bjorg Lambrecht, a 22 years old rider, who rides for Team Lotto-Soudal is a Belgian cyclist and has been reported death on the operation table after experiencing an accident at the Tour of Poland.

The accident occurred when Lambrecht crashed into a concrete culvert about 60 miles from the finish line of the third stage which is from Chorzow to Zabrze.

Lambrecht alongside other riders were battling with heavy rain as they raced roughly 200 miles to the south of Poland's capital; Warsaw.

According to reports which was confirmed by Team Lotto-Soudal, Lambrecht was rushed to a nearby hospital, in Rybnik by a helicopter but Lambrecht’s fatal condition did not allow him to go far.

Lambrecht's vital organs were believed to have been restored by the doctors but he gave up the ghost during the surgery.

The death was reported officially on Team Lotto-Soudal Twitter. The tweet goes;

"The biggest tragedy possible that could happen to the family, friends and team-mates of Bjorg has happened. Rest in peace,"

His death has been met with deep sadness and condolences from individuals and teams.

Bjorg Lambrecht was regarded as one of Belgium's prominent riders after winning the under 23 competition of the prestigious Liege-Bastogne-Liege race.

He was just riding in his second professional season and came second in last year's under 23 world championship.

Just two days ago, Lambrecht tweeted that after training at Livigno, it was time to focus on racing again and that he was ready to race in the Tour of Poland in his new brand new Lotto Fix All outfit.
