The fifth defeat in the Premier League in a row against Southampton on Friday was the last straw for Aston Villa's management, who have taken the consequence of recent poor results and have fired Dean Smith as manager.

Dean Smith took over the club in 2018 after being manager at Brentford, Thomas Frank now controls the reins. He moved up with Aston Villa in the Premier League in his first season, surviving exactly the first season in the top English tier. Last season, Aston Villa surprised and finished in 11th place.

At the time of writing, The Villa is in a disappointing 15th place and something new is about to happen. According to the media The Telegraph, there are two serious candidates to take over the managerial position at the club.

One is the Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, who since 2018 has been at the helm of the Scottish big team Glasgow Rangers, which he has led back to the top of Scottish football and this summer won the championship with.

The other candidate for the job is Southampton's Austrian manager Ralpg Hasenhüttl. The Austrian has been manager of the southern English club since 2018 and has held the club in the Premier League since then.
