NFL's TV numbers still sliding; 2017 figures down big from same period in '15

in #sports7 years ago

The NFL's once-golden network TV numbers continue to drop.

NFL games averaged 15.1 million viewers through Week 7, according to Nielsen data obtained by Sporting News. That's down 5.1 percent from 15.87 million viewers during the same period last season and off 18.7 percent from 18.35 million viewers during the same period in 2015.

Viewership numbers are lagging for a variety of reasons, not least the ongoing protests during the national anthem that former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began in 2016. Fans are still angry about Kaepernick’s continued unemployment as well as what's seen as the growing politicization of the NFL.

I can honestly say I have not sat down to watch a NFL game this year and I've talked to a few guys this year that haven't watched a game either. I really started getting pissed off at the NFL when news broke about the Pentagon paying them millions to honor the military at games Source. I think that's when a lot of the viewership started to decline because people started realizing how shallow and greedy the NFL is. They really just care about making money and pretending they care about things. Heck I would not be surprised if this kneeling crap during the national anthem is all just a paid promotion by a bunch of globalist scum like George Soros. If the Pentagon can pay them to promote the military who's to say they aren't being paid to promote this anti-nationalism crap.

The NFL desperately needs to redeem itself or it will continue to loose viewers until it becomes the WNBA of sports where no one watches it and the players suck at it.

I also havent watched the nfl this year... but i am not sure why... i just stopped caring for some reason. The kneeling and other BS doesnt really bother me that much; i think it all just became a bunch of drama and like you said the NFL pretending to care or not care about one thing or another and someone getting suspended for something and some political something else...

Oh ya there's definitely to much drama it's as bad or worse than a reality tv show.
